I don't have much of a problem with sleeping, but sometimes when I want a really good long night's sleep I take a travel sickness pill (Avomine, 50mg) then within 3 or 4 hours I feel all relaxed and I sleep well for at least 12-13 hours, and then the next day I feel completely refreshed and motivated.

Usually I take one twice a week, when I've got to get up for an early shift in the morning. I allow myself at least 14 hours of sleep when I do this.

I was wondering though, is this going to do me any damage, like kidney stones, stomach ulcers, etc? Or is it harmless, if I'm not taking a pill every day?

I think you shoudl talk to a doctor.

The problem is you could cause problems with you body, and also mess up your sleep pattern.

People take benzos recreationally also a CNS depressant, but if you keep taking these drug eventually you may become tolerant and dependent.

when i need something, i take melatonin 3mg and 1/2 tsp powdered ginger (yes, the spice from your spice rack) in a cup of warm sweetened water. milk is better, but i don't need the calories. i fall asleep in a half hour, even if i slept in that day. i sleep 8 hours and wake up alert and refreshed. you should let your doc know if you do this because both melatonin and ginger tend to be anticoagulants. melatonin is an antioxidant and is associated with a lower incidence of cancer. ginger also helps with nausea.

Ginger is excellent for nausea/travel sickenss, as good as the prescription meds in a high enough dose.

I like it fresh, if I can. Powder is ok

It's probably not a good idea, especially since there are pills that are made specifically to help people sleep, although even these pills can be addicting, and have been linked to Alzheimer's in older people. It might be a good idea to give melatonin a try; it's a hormone that helps regulate sleep, and a lot of people on the spectrum don't produce the hormone in high enough quantities. However, keep in mind that you only need to take melatonin for a little while. If you are having sleep issues to the point where you need pills, a doctor's visit may be in order, because you might have a sleep disorder.

Actually this drug under different name is marketed fro different uses.

It is not usually used for insomnia but can be. Although other drug are usually preferred where available.

Joe90 doesn't have insomnia, and different sleep disorder need to be assessed becuase they can be confused with one another.

taking too much of anything even melatonin is not good idea. Although she is probably best try the melatonin.

It just helps me relax, and I mean REALLY relax. It's the same as being on MJ, except it's legal and is over-the-counter and doesn't make me "crazy". It just makes me extremely drowsy, so drowsy that I slip into a lovely, calming sleep. I love the feeling.

Anyway if I was traveling a lot and suffered extreme motion sickness, I'd be taking them then. I do suffer with motion sickness anyway. When my boyfriend drove 7 hours to Scotland, I took 2 Avomines, not only to prevent motion sickness, but to also send me to sleep most of the way. It's like a time warp.

Ps. I have never done MJ. I was just using it as an example.
