The very last knuckle on the middle finger of my left hand has been hurting when I type. It's right at the tip, that knuckle. It felt at first like I had jammed it some way but I popped the knuckles a few times and that didn't help. For the past two days this has been going on. When I type with it, it hurts every time no matter how gently, so I'm not using it. I just noticed that the knuckle there is swollen on one side a bit. Like a lump in the bone. I wonder if I hit it on something and didn't notice and thats why?

Hmmmmmmm...... a mystery.

Perhaps you did bump it. I say if it doesn't start feeling better in a few days then you should see a dr, especially if that bump starts getting bigger.

Btw, I really like your avatar picture. It looks like a very calm inducing place and one I could spend hours in.

See if putting a little ice on it helps. Have you tried that yet?

I had something similar, and noticed that I was hitting the keys with that finger harder than with the others.

I had to let it rest for about a week, and then type slower for a while.

Thanks guys!

Yeah I bet I did hit it and not notice that Music. I'm very clumsy and always hurting myself without remembering exactly how I did it.

The avatar is a pic that was taken about a mile from my house. That's the Cahaba River. The kids used to swim there a lot as kids.

No, I haven't tried ice. I hate icing things on myself, but I just may try some later on.

Fnord, rest is a good idea. I may have been hitting harder with it and not noticed it. For now, I'm typing with four fingers on that hand, to try to give it a rest. I might stick a finger splint on it. I've got a couple of them around here, as my boys always ended up hurting their fingers playing ball, etc.

my late mother had a similar problem, it turned out to be arthritis. hopefully that isn't your case. but we both are of the vintage of where that is a possibility.
