This is Mariusz Pudzianowski, he's (I think) a five time World Strongest Man, he's a strongman competition competitor and MMA fighter. He's 6'1, and hovers between 260-310 pounds, as you see, he's pretty ripped, looks to be pretty low bodyfat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariusz_Pudzianowski There's the wikipedia page about him, what struck me the most was, his diet.

On one of the World Stongman events shown on TV, as well as in an interview for MTV, Mariusz when asked about diet said: "I eat everything. I do not follow any particular diet. I eat anything I want, anytime I want".[28]

Quote:
My energy comes from my diet. Breakfast is 10 eggs and two to three pounds of bacon. Between meals, I eat lots of candy. In the morning, it will be several 3 Musketeers and/or Snickers bars; I need them for energy. Lunch, at 1 or 2 PM, is a double meal of a Polish pork chop, sauerkraut and potatoes. An hour later, I work out, then take lots of supplements: magnesium, creatine, amino acids, all that stuff, and more chocolate. Dinner is whatever meat I can grab—steaks, pork chops, bacon—plus more sauerkraut and potatoes. At 9 or 10 PM, I work out again. Afterward, I have a protein shake and more chocolate. At 3 or 4 AM, I wake up and have more chocolate, then go back to sleep until morning.[29]

Quite shocking, no? He seemingly breaks all the rules, and is, well, the world's strongest man, and he's got a fairly low bodyfat percentage, definitely lower than someone like Hossein Rezazadeh, the super heavyweight Olympic weightlifting record holder. Anyway, yeah, regarding the diet, though, breaks all the rules, and, well.... look at the results. One thing I thought of in regard to this was the Lewis Black routine, the one about the guy who lived to be 115 eating bread fried in fatback and Thunderbird wine (which is an exaggerated story.) Here's the skit I'm talking about, btw...

Anyone else have any thoughts about his diet? Nuts? Awesome?

it's hard to say without knowing what he actually eats. I've often though this sort of approach has it's advantages from personal experience. People usually say routine is best but maybe that is not entirely true.
I guess he does work out a s**t ton and the majority of his life and livelihood revolve around his strength so maybe routine is not as important/necessary to fit in. i was amazed when i saw him first on worlds strongest man, still amazed

he has to have protective genes. a more run-of-the-mill set of genes wouldn't let a person do what he does as well as he does, eating that beastly diet of his.

This is quite an old article. I remember seeing it a few years ago on a bodybuilding site. I doubt that was his real diet, although from watching his MMA fights, he gasses out very easily so who knows.

I also think he was doing steroids back when he was competing in TWSM. They don't test for performance enhancing drugs, only recreational from what I have read. Normally, it is advised to eat an incredibly healthy diet when consuming steroids, to get the best out of them, and to stay away from any possible negative side effects. I could see him saying "Oh yea, I just eat whatever" when the reality is his diet could be so complex that he doesn't even want to talk about it honestly. On the other hand if what he said is true he sure consumes a lot of sugars and massive amounts of fat and protein. Steroid users often eat more than normal, because they are working out so often and burning calories so fast.

He has leaned down quite a bit since the TWSM days, in order to improve his endurance for MMA, so maybe he is eating better now and on less or no steroids. Aside from the fact that he looks good aesthetically, and he can lift a lot, he doesn't look that healthy for an athlete, especially when I watch him fight. Still, to this day the guy gasses out so quick with those big muscles, so whatever he's doing it can't be good for the heart at all.

You can get big and strong if you eat and lift for mass, which is no secret. Many bodybuilders who are pretty big eat terrible diets, and as a result they are unhealthy in the long run. It's hard for me to respect guys like that, but in Marius's case terrible diet and steroids or not, I do respect how he has pushed the limits of a human body like he has... But I don't think it's that healthy whatever he is doing.

Herschel Walker says he only eats one meal a day and look at that guy. Herschel Walker also has multiple personalities though.

I used to think that as well, then I got to know a strongman competitor and he said the same thing, that he just eats whatever. I asked him how he stays so ripped despite his lacking diet, and he gave me the take-a-wild-guess look. If I had to guess I'd say that many of them consume boatloads of mild cutting agents that also increase strength such as primo and 'var. Maybe combined with test, I don't know.

When I was working the hardest in my life was when I was the skinniest. I ate the worst at that time too. Luckily, there was a vending machine near by, and I would stop my work a few times a day to get things like bear claws, cream cheese danishes, dolly madison gems, glazed donuts, twinkies, different candy bars, etc. They kept me going. If I didn't have the change to purchase it, I'd crash before the end of the day.

If you eat that much to maintain your calorie need and you do burn off that many calories, seems like it would be easy to burn off your muscle. Guess it's in the genes.

It might be that the things he wants to eat are quite healthy :)

This is him now. Looks like he is eating better now, but still hulking. He's supposed to be fighting freak show "Bob Sapp" next, who tends to throw fights for cash.

Well this is another thing apparently. Before starting strongman, he was a boxer. But also, whilst in strongman, he seemed to concentrate a lot on GPP, basically cardio actually.

Quote:
On staying injury-free: "The reasons I’ve never injured myself are probably because my reps are smooth, not explosive, and because I work so hard on conditioning.

I do lots of swimming, three or four times a week, jump rope every day, and I run a lot, even while carrying heavy resistance: I grab a 200-pound bag of sand and run back and forth with It."

So the whole bazillion calories thing sorta makes sense now, it's the same sorta things Michael Phelps was famous for, except in Mariusz's case, he's pushing for strength and conditioning. So that's why he looks like a bodybuilder, yep...

Yeah, just being a lean 260-300 he probably burns 2500-3000 calories a day just from muscle mass, plus all his workouts, so he can afford to eat like that. But if he continued to eat like that and stopped working out he would quickly turn obese.

The guys head looks two sizes too small for his body... Creepy. He has the face of a an old farmer gentlemen I once knew too. Guy looks like he could be a light heavy or middleweight naturally.
