About a year ago I had a really bad TMJ disorder that lasted for three months and never fully went away. I discovered a few stretches on the internet that helped me to remove the locked jaw, but just this morning it came back.

Does anyone have any advice? Last time the doctors just told me it would eventually clear up on its own and I don't want to sit there with a locked jaw for over a month like I did last year.

About 12 years or so ago my husband had that. He woke up one morning and couldn't open his jaw more than a few inches. He went to the emergency room and they sent him to a surgeon who did something to fix it in same day surgery. He hasn't had the problem since then.

I'd strongly suggest you getting a referral to a surgeon about it, to see if he thinks he can fix it surgically for you. My husband was only at the hospital about 8 hours for the surgery and everything and came home that afternoon and went back to work the second day afterwards. He had a little pain and couldn't chew much for two weeks but it was nothing like the pain of the locked jaw, he said.

How much did the surgeon cost though?

I'm worried about this because I still have braces and they're in the 'moving my jaw forward' stage. The doctors I went to all told me that it would just clear up, and I even did visit surgeon who told me the same thing.

I don't remember, because at the time we had health insurance and it was covered. The only thing we paid was the copay for the prescriptions.
