I am so unbelievably sick of living in a world where the diet police and everyone else is constantly telling me what I can or cannot eat. According to the "experts" my weight, eating habits and lack of exercise should have killed me at least a decade ago, or I should now have diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and a lowered immune system. But I have never smoked and I don't drink. Surely those things would ad a few years to my life??? It is so hard being a teetotaler in a very non-teetotal world. Put a package of cookies in your shopping cart and people will treat you like scum, but fill it full of booze and people are like ALL RIGHT!! ! I am not a recovering alcoholic and I do not have a history of alcoholism in my family. It's just that for some unfathomable reason I fail to see the joy in getting completely wasted, puking your guts out and waking up hungover with no memory of what you did. What kind of a life do you have if you feel you have to numb it with booze. ALCOHOL IS A DRUG. It is the most abused drug in North America and I hate it. HATE HATE HATE IT!! ! I hate that they're always telling you how fattening pop and even fruit juice is but they never go on about the hundreds of calories that exist in alcoholic beverages. I am sick of people assuming that just because I'm an adult I naturally drink. I know not everyone who drinks is a booze hound but many people are. I guess I should be glad I was born female, people seem to think you're not a "man" if you don't drink. Some people even seem to think not drinking makes you a "terrorist" since middle eastern countries are "dry". :x I am actually in good health in spite of my weight. I seldom even get colds, I have no allergies and I can eat and digest almost any kind of food. I can actually eat wheat, dairy products, nuts, eggs, oats and meat. I do try to eat healthy but the truth is that I am not really a big eater. I am on medications that actually decrease appetite and, of course, they don't mix with booze. SO STOP TELLING ME HOW TO LIVE MY LIFE!! ! End of rant.

I am also a tea totaler. I have tried alcoholic beverages--in small amounts out of curiosity, but never cared for it, and never bought it for home use, and I've never been to a bar. I also don't like having it in marinades or other food preps, as I don't like the way it makes foods taste. I also don't see the sense in getting drunk. I tried a puff on a cigarette once to try and understand why others smoke, but I still don't understand. I also can't stand people criticising every morsel I eat. Fortunately, I now live alone, so I only have to put up with that when I visit relatives--as seldom as possible, or when they call on the phone.--Yes, they give me a hard time about what I eat over the phone! And I am in my 50s. Why on earth would I want to make frequent visits to people who constantly criticise me?

I don't know what to suggest to deal with this problem, other than to minimize contact. It's the only way to reduce the stress others cause me.

It's like me and cigarettes. I used to smoke, and when I did, I would weigh on average 35 pounds more.

I have to ask myself if I want smoking related health problems, or obese related health problems.

Drinking to that extreme is not all that enjoyable.......I mean who wants to puke up their guts and wake up with a hangover? But I do enjoy drinking. Also I do sometimes use it to numb my pain so to answer your question about what kind of life one has that would make them want to drink to numb themselves try a life full of pain. Be glad you don't have to resort to that  but for me sometimes it gets down to either getting a bit messed up or attempting suicide if I don't find some relief. Also I can't take feeling dead inside all the time like I do and drinking helps that some...though I know in reality I can never consume enough beer to fill that void.

Why don't you just tell them it's none of their business what you do or don't consume?

While you're doing that, you might also want to make it none of your business whether or not others drink alcohol. If you don't want them judging you for what you choose to put in your body, don't judge them for theirs either.

As for the food police, just change the channel when those "experts" come on. I'm sick of them myself. I eat what I want and it's always worked out good for me.

I feel the exact same way as your topic title but not the same as you feel, since I like to eat healthy.

For me its like this: The world is obsessed with fashion, looks, physical perfect, fitting in those skinny jeans, nice skin, style 90% of people can only pull off if they are officially skinny and not "average"...yet the world wants us to embrace a heavy drinking culture where its not socially acceptable if you don't want to go out drinking. BE HEALTHY, BE FIT..but lets go out drinking on Friday til we puke!

I find it a really annoying double standard and people I know who were once pretty and skinny gained a HUGE amount of weight by embracing this "booze it up" culture that I despise so much. Yes I hate "fun" apparently. Also I think beer gut is disgusting. Truth is alcohol makes you unhealthy (and fat) a lot faster than going to a fast food joint does, probably. I'm going by observation here, not cold hard facts.

Anyway, sorry for turning your topic around OP, I think you should be allowed to live your life the way you want as long as you are perfectly happy, not suffering and not hurting others.

Healthy eating isn't an exact science.

Why? Looks good to me. :)

I see:

beans (healthy)
tomato (healthy)
mushroom (healthy)
1 egg (7 eggs/week is reasonable)
2 sausage (not a big fan personally, but the serving is small)

only thing I'm not sure about (maybe someone from the UK can enlighten me) what is the fried triangle at the top, and what's underneath the egg?

Yet you come from Northern Ireland, the very home of fatty breakfasts so frankly I think you're a fine one to start slabbering about eating fatty breakfasts. ;)

Point taken though - which is why I don't eat like this too often.

Bob Evan's Homestead Breakfast

Haven't had one of those in a few years.

:chef:

EDIT: Looks like they forgot the big bowl of gravy.

I do like a fry up. Maybe once a month. People do eat that every day, though. My breakfast is a protein shake, poached eggs on wholemeal toast and greek yoghurt with dried cranberries and a mix of seeds.

Fried mushroom, fried sausage, fried egg, deep fried hash brown, fried black pudding and fried tomato.

Irish fry ups are even worse becase it comes with selection of fried baked products. Fried bread, fried soda bread and fried potato bread which is like flattened Gnochi in baked form and then fried. THEN people spread butter on the fried breads.

Don't forget the black pudding! Bloody nice black pudding as well, it was. :D
