When i woke up early this morning (after only getting 3 hours sleep) my eyes were very bloodshot and watery and also the lines on my forhead were much more noticible. the bloodshotness of my eyes cleared up a bit after 5 mintues of being awake.

i then decided too go back too bed and after waking up after a few hours more sleep my eyes were no longer bloodshot and the lines on my forhead vanished.

how come even one night of bad sleep do this too your skin and eyes? basically my eyes looked very red and my skin looked more pale. after 8 hours of sleep i wake up and my skin is glowing and my eyes are a little watery but hardly bloodshot.

Bwa ha ha, bloodshot eyes are nothing. Take it from me.

Whenever I have severe sleep deprivation, I get acne, a pain in my chest, water retention in calves, a cough, increased body odor (to the point of having to use a medicated deodorant), dizziness, bad breath, lip sores, gum infections, high blood pressure, palpitations, and severe irritability and panic.

To answer your question: I do not know why lack of sleep affects your eyes that way. I suppose they just need to rest (along with the rest of the body as well).

Aggggggh I just googled sleep deprivation to provide you with more information and was extremely angered and distressed at the sick photo and description I found on the Wikipedia page, all about some cruel treatment of a laboratary rat. Why are people so evil to animals? Gahhhhh. They should have the same thing done to THEM and see how they like it.

Sorry that was slightly off topic but it just makes me so ANGRY. Sick evil sadists.

A neuroscientist once told me that if you don't sleep you go mad and then you die. Scientists are still not completely sure why.

I was sleep deprived for 3 months and had a seizure. It's know to happen but no one really knows why either.

So basically, I don't know. But if it's so important for things like...life...I'm not too surprised there are physical manifestations when you don't get enough, even acutely.
