Why do my limbs often go numb, sometimes for hours?

Mostly the hands... this isn't total numbness, and it's not 'active' like pins and needles. It used to happen after I go to sleep, almost regularly, but now it's happening while awake too. It's sort of an electrified feeling too, if you know what I mean.

Btw, I also get a prickly sensation when I sweat... could the two be connected? Also, my nose is often blocked and I feel as if I can't breathe in enough oxygen.

No idea. I get numb hands/legs/feet because of something called Raynaud's Phenomenon. I don't get very good circulation to my extremities. You might want to have a doctor check this out just in case it's serious. It could be nothing but then it could be a neurological issue.

i sometimes get it when sitting down for long periods and often have dead hands/arms in the morning. It's accepted that sitting down for more than 45 mins at a time is not good for you

there is a lot you can do to improve your circulation so that would be my first approach. yeh, you should probably see a doc

I agree you should see a doctor to check out possible causes.

From my own experience, one possible cause of the numbness could be stress. I had numbness and tingling in hands and feet, along with other symptoms, headaches, sore and stiff neck and back, shooting pains in my arms, shortness of breath and palpitations, and within days of making a decision which alleviated the long term stress I'd been enduring, I felt fine!

You need to see a doctor.

Numb limbs can be a sign of diabetes. If your urinating a lot as well, you need to get checked even sooner.

I hadn't made the connection to diabetes, but yes, you should see your doctor as soon as you can, especially if you are thirsty and urinating a lot.
