Hi, my daughter has Aspergers and her anxiety results in teeth grinding, arm biting, hair chewing etc. We have never made the connection before but she often has soft bowel movements, sometimes with evidence of mucus. Could this be anxiety induced colitis? Anyone else heard of this?

Only occured to me while watching the film Temple Grandin as she only eats jello and pudding!!

Thanks.

Coming from a kid who grew up with those troubles, what about the other way around - internal discomfort causing stress and insensitivity. A lot of people on here mention oddly high pain tolerance... Worth a look, at least.

Digestive and food sensitivities are common the spectrum.

Has she been tested for food allergies- casein, gluten, etc?

She doesnt really complain of any pain but does seem to have a high pain threshold, also her stools seem normal some of the time. We have taken her to a Dr and they gave her antibiotics but it didnt work. She got too stressed out by the thought of taking medicine she was being sick at the thought of it. She has been to the Drs twice about this, the first time we suspected worms and treated her for that. Got another Drs appointment next week, really want to get to the bottom of this.... no pun intended!

Thanks :)

Have them run blood tests for Celiac. My daughter has much of the behaviors you mention and just tested positive for the tTG IgG gluten intolerance test. Supposedly, anxiety is a common sympom of gluten intolerence. Do not take her off gluten before the test.
