well, not every, but a lot...

e.g. i get panic attacks, dizziness, heart palpitations, asthma attacks, inability to think straight and the like from being in a new situation or being overstimulated by noise (ie industrial noise, not loud music) .
i get irritable guts either from stress/anxiety and/or something in my diet (pretty sure it's dairy or glucose)

but lately(well, over the last few years), i've been having periods of low energy, low self esteem, depression for hours or even days at a time when i have the most horrible thoughts when suddenly BLAMMMO!! ! it lifts and i have this great new idea for my website so im up for 3 days straight writing javascript then out to the pub and working at a gig and getting absolutely wasted and going to heavy rock gigs and clubs and deafening myself and never wanting sleep, and then getting home again and "inverting" and crashing out and not wanting to be near anyone (less so than normal)...

More like a mental energy thing. It sounds like you are just mentally exhausted.

I do the same thing. You have all the energy and motivation in the world, so you max it out and do it fast - the result then is you crash really hard. I personally call it a slingshot effect (start low, shoot yourself high, then come back down harder), though it would probably be more realistic to compare it to a trampoline or money (where that "lift" feeling you get is a pay check that you go out and spend - crash when you are broke). Sometimes I can control it (Like watch an awesome movie but then get "depressed" the next day), sometimes not. It is easily confused with being bi-polar - mental exhaustion being nearly indistinguishable from depression (though this can be the result of the former). If you get caught in the loop, it is hard to get out of, which is probably why you see it more frequently.
