Okay I get that poor balance is a hallmark of AS, I seem to remember having a bit of trouble learning how to ride a bike but once I did I was like Rocky jumping the fence in Chicken Run "Freedommm"! I was a riding fool from that day forward, well I just got back into riding again and right off the bat I'm riding ten miles like its nothing. I mean I can't stand on one foot for any length of time to save my life, I am somewhat clumsy (misa clumsy) in general but once I'm on a bike i am just fine, so any other cyclists here?

Yes. I am clumsy off the bicycle, but on the bicycle playing guitar I am graceful, or at least less clumsy!

Yes, I love cycling. I know what you mean about the feeling of freedom.
As a child I had a three-wheeled bike for years, I think it took a long time to transition to two wheels
Have no problems with it now.

When my son was learning to ride, the bike shop guy recommended removing the pedals and chain first. Then he could just sit on the saddle and push himself with his feet. He got his balance v. quickly, and then learned to ride in a short while, once we put the pedals and chain on again. It might be a bit odd for an adult, but if you didn't mind that, it might help a lot.

When I learned cycling as a kid, my solution was to only try to ride for one turn of the pedals and then stop. I kept on doing only that much until I felt I had better balance, and only then risked going further. Hope you try it again, good luck!

I used to ride 3,000 to 5,000 miles every year.

By the way, if you really want to improve your balance, go take ballet classes.

thank you for your good tidings :) my next bike [should i have any $$$$$$ left after the medical bills] will be a low center of gravity recumbant model. i'm a tall drink of water, and my tall bike acted just like a lever to dump me extra-hard onto the rough pavement, so next time i don't wanna fall as hard and as far above the ground as i did last time.

I do excellent on a bike but would never try my luck with motorcycles or mopeds. Once I was on my cousin's moped in the country and crashed it into a ditch so I bet I am too uncoordinated for them. Or something. Not sure if it's balance related or what. It's just that the moped goes faster than the bicycle and there's no peddling to concentrate on so nothing left to do but crash. I do fine on manual bicycles though. I would never try a motor cycle.

I love my bike :D It's not cool or anything, it just gets me around, but I love it. It did take a while for me to learn because I had decided that I couldn't ride my big bike. I traded with a friend who had a much smaller bike until my toes got caught in the spokes and I lost a toenail. I'm still wobbly on curves but that's mostly because I'm a target fixator. I'm better on motorcycles for some reason. I think the greater speed makes the curves feel more natural and a lane on a road is generally wider than a lane on a bike trail.
There's one curve on my daily commute that I consistantly have to remind myself "Look where you WANT to go, not at the curve!".

I have a motorcycle also, its a nice little Honda CBR 250 with ABS, it is a very tame yet cool looking little motorcycle (70+mpg), I wouldn't ever want to ride a real crotch-rocket, I tried to pop a wheelie, very bad idea, no real damage though so I got lucky this time.

At any rate I want to get up to at least 40-50 miles per week riding my bicycle.

So here I am in all of my Aspie glory, hey honey go get the camera and check out how cool I am! (I mean no offense by this, I am merely poking fun at myself because I was uninjured by this accident, I am a lot more careful now, no more wheelies for me)

At this point I just let the bike go and watched it fall over, the only real damage besides some minor scratches was a busted clutch lever which cost $10 to replace.

Not sure if this is the right way to straighten out tweeked forks but it worked, so I took my bike to the shop and they had no clue how to straighten my forks, NT’s can be pretty dense sometimes, so I googled it and figured out for myself.

I did a wheelie like that once with a friend's motorcycle. Somehow I managed to hold on and it didn't fall over.

That as the last time I ever tried to do a wheelie.

However, one night while drunk I rode a friend's bike that he used for racing. I gave full throttle in about 5th gear and well over the speed limit and the front wheel came up in the air catching me by complete surprised. I slowed down, turned around, and rode about 30 mph back to the party and got off of it.

Firstly I swear I'm not stalking you :shameonyou:

I just came home from a pushy ride 36K's today, 18 yesterday. Just started riding again to get a bit fit and lose some weight. I've been going beside the expressway so the road is pretty rough and lots of debris. I enjoy the solitude and can get my head down and go for it.

I also own a black Honda CBR 8O , mines a Blackbird. Not really game to wheelie, can't afford to throw $10 grand down the road.
