What I seem to gather about a lot of women eating healthier and exercising regularly is that they just want an hourglass figure and large breasts,i.e. the aesthetic aspect of fitness.

It has nothing to do with endorphin rushes or performance or even general health concerns, it's more like "I'm not getting any whistles on the street".
That's where anorexia, etc. stems from. They're extremely unhealthy.
That is the impression I get from a lot of women who talk about dieting, exercise, etc.

Obviously, I don't mean like powerful female athletes(who btw look fit as f**k) or anyone like that.

Go to bodybuilding.com, most men are the same way. All about dem dere aesthetics bro. Seriously, that's why bodybuilding is so popular. That is in fact the point of it, to look aesthetic. It's also why powerlifting and Olympic lifting as sports are so unpopular, all the resources went to bodybuilding. That's why USA, the self proclaimed strongest country in the world, hasn't medalled in weightlifting in the Olympics since the 70s.

Only now with the advent of the internet are people starting to train for function again. You can see this with the advent of Mark Rippetoe and Crossfit and stuff like that, those programs aren't perfect or the end all be all, but it's certainly better than something you'd get out of " Muscle and Fitness" or something.

But yeah, I do not know where you meet the men who talk about adrenaline rushes from working out. Most men I talk to just want a huge chest and biceps so they can impress the wimmenz.

EDIT:
Actually US has medalled, but only women have. Yep.

Most of the girls at my gym can't even bench press the bar and their idea of a tough workout is 20 reps with 4 lb dumbells on a swiss ball.

That sounds like women who have an unhealthy body image. Real women who exercise would not be afraid to eat.

Wait, what is the question?

Yup that's me. Low weight and high(ish) reps. But at my age that really is a tough workout. The young women at your gym could probably do more if they really wanted to, but they don't really want to. And I don't blame them. That workout is just fine for basic health maintenance although it won't get you into the Olympics.

So what you're saying is that you know nothing about anorexia.

Why is there so much emphasis on weight-lifting? I'd rather do cardio every day without using gym equipment than commit myself to lifting as much weights as I can. It's unrealistic for me to travel to a gym every day.

He posts a lot of stuff like this without thinking about how it will come across. Take a look around the other forums, that'll prove my point.

Lifting burns more calories and contributes more to an esthetically nice physique than does cardio.

I kinda figure how anorexia works into this, but...not exactly sure.
Explain.

Because they are obsessed with being "slim" and having the perfect body.

...Yeah, that's what I was saying, is that women are extremely concerned about aesthetics

Not all women. This is also a delicate subject you're peeking into.
