If your city does, when did it fluoridate its water supply and if your city has never fluoridated its water supply, how many times has it tried to do so?

The reason why I ask this is the city that I live in, Portland OR, annouced a few weeks back it will add fluoride to the city's water supply, which naturally ticked off anti-water fluoridation groups around Portland. Although some anti-water fluoridation individuals do have some good reasons as to why not, the majority here in Portland who do not support water fluoridation are being absolutely paranoid about it.

Unfortunately yes. And I don't believe it's paranoid at all. There's zero reason to put it in the water at all. If the cities actually cared about people they'd add magnesium to the water, as most people are magnesium deficient. Even if fluoride was good for your teeth, the logic of adding it to water doesn't make sense at all, as when you go to a dentist it's topically applied to the teeth in a controlled manner. With water, it's just dependent upon the entirely random amounts of water you drink (or eat in any cooking) everyday.

I fail to see how it's logical to add something potentially harmful to water with pretty much zero positive effects.

I agree, what exactly is the point of putting fluoride in public drinking water, other than to try and prevent tooth decay, when really it does the opposite?!

I am pretty sure we have no fluoride in the water where I live.

I think mine does but I don't drink tap water, nor do I cook food in it. My mother cooks food with tap water so I end up getting some in me. I've never had any kind of fluoride treatment from a dentist.

Most toothpastes contain fluoride, which is applied in a less controlled manner.
