I really couldn't care less about sports, but I relented before peer pressure and am watching it so I don't look like a complete idiot when people talk about it later. So who was cool enough to not watch the superbowl in defiance of peer pressure? Who gave in and decided to watch it? Who watched it because they actually enjoy it?

I forgot, so it's not quite open defiance so much as complete apathy towards the subject. Not even the commercials seem to interest me anymore. I am far too busy rocking out to the Pointer Sisters today to care about silly old football, a sport that doesn't really use the foot in contact with the ball, anyway.

I don't even know who's playing in the Super Bowl.

As a diehard Steeler fan, it was impossible for me not to watch the Super Bowl. I am now on Cloud 9 now that the Steelers won one for the thumb, that Cowher finally has his Super Bowl title, and that the Bus can finally be parked in his home garage with a Super Bowl ring.

To our Seahawk fan colleagues--there were times when I thought the Seahawks outplayed the Steelers, but they kept on self-destructing with penalties or that costly interception in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks are a class organization from a class city, but I think they self-destructed too many times in the game.

You have to admit Seattle played a great game, and Ben Roethlisberger and the steelers didn't look so hot in the first half, but we came out on top!!

ONE FOR THE THUMB BABY!! ! WOOOOOOO!!

I am not a sports fan. The crowds and noise would be very difficult for me to deal with. I don't understand why other people care enough which group of players wins a football game to watch that game on television, but I know some people do.

If there is a sports fan here, would you mind explaining to me what it is about sports that you like so much?

I didn't watch the Super Bowl. I'm completely underwhelmed by football in general.

Well regarding football (soccer for the Americans),

-The aesthetic value of it. If it's done well, watching a player's technique can be very entertaining. This is subjective, but judging the enormous number of football fans worldwide, fairly common.

-Exercising. Sports are a good way to keep your body healthy.

-The connection with a team. I connected with the teams that reflected my view on football, and even have a undying, yet critical sympathy for some clubs in particular. That's due to the fact that football is considered to be more than just a game by most people who're involved in it. In fact, some societies even exist only by the grace of their club or take great pride in a club which they see as a part of them.

-The developments, intrigues and business within the world of football are interesting to follow, like a 24/7 real-life soap.

-I'm a numbers freak, and a organized professional sport is a great way to collect statistics.

That is why I like football, in a nutshell. I also don't like the stadium scene though, unless I'm with family or a group of friends. Otherwise the noise is horrible, which reduces the concentration of the game. The people are usually well-behaved though, unless you're in the wrong section of course. Luckily, there are other ways to enjoy the sport - participating and watching.

Like I said in another thread: to each his own, but I can't imagine my life without sports (besides football there are other sports which I also appreciate.).

Thanks for explaining it to me. I guess I'm just wired differently.
