It seems that everytime I sleep more than 7 hours, it makes my next day a living hell to stay awake and be active or just to do anything at all.

There seems to be nothing I can do that day to make myself feel better or more energetic than basically use my force to stay till 2 am and try to get up at 7 or 8 am to feel relieved, positive and energetic again.

I wonder if this is medication related or just poor physique/genes? I take invega minimal dose + 50mg sertraline daily.

When I sleep 7 hours or less, I feel like I'm in heaven, unless the lack of sleep is that extreme, but that's rarely the case.

Can anybody relate to this?

I heard it has a lot to do with where you wake up in the sleep cycle. If you wake up in the middle of REM, you tend to feel very drowsy no matter how much you actually slept. Check out the below link:

How to Wake up and Feel Better

I can't sleep under 7-8 hours and be like...sentient. I'd sleep like 12 if I made the time. After pulling an all nighter with maybe 2 hours of sleep total, I slept 14 hours.

I have to get around 9 hours of sleep and not be woken up by anyone or anything for it to matter.

Getting to sleep is the hard part though.

Yeah I always wake myself up with my nervous tics.

I have to sleep exactly 8 hours for it to be restful. Any less and I'm a groggy waste of space, any more and I just feel sluggish (though I'm at least able to get stuff accomplished).

Getting to sleep (and staying asleep) is definitely difficult for me because I'm such a light sleeper. I have to block the bottom edge of my bedroom door with a towel because if my roommate is awake the light from her bedroom will come in under the door and wake me up. Also, if the person in the apartment above me has their TV on I can just forget it.

I need 7-8 hours to function. Every now and then I get 10 on the weekends and feel AMAZING! I think the issue in you case may be that your body has grown accustomed to being sleep deprived and basically living with a constant sleep debt. I've known a few people who were like that, and would never sleep more than 5 hours a night. Once they changed their habits they ended up feeling much better though, and were far more alert than they had previously been. My suggestion would be to try getting at least 7-8 hours a night for a solid week or two, and then see if it makes a difference. Of course it may be really difficult to do initially, so it might be best to wait until you have a vacation or something, so you don't have to worry about work and such.
