I use my Wii and exercise by dancing to Michael Jackson: The Experience. It really makes me sweat it off.

I think hardcore punk would be a pretty good motivator while lifting, ha. I usually end up listening to a wide variety of genres though; one week, I'll only listen to Prog or Prog metal (Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc.) while the following week, I'll lift just as intensely to Radiohead, Classical or Muse. My squat rack is next to my music/recording room so I just run the iPod through the PA and get some epic sound going. I actually can't stand listening to music through earbuds in public places...it makes me feel strangely claustrophobic.

I put on Invisible Touch (album) by Genesis. I still prefer the band's earlier work a lot but their popish stuff is ok and (most important) energetic.

For me it's REALLY variable. Basically, I use it to modulate my mood. I can't be too "amped" or whatever, as I'll get really sloppy with what I'm doing and not be able to think of the movements. However, if I go in like, depressed, I'll throw on something a bit more lively.

So, here's a sample of songs I could listen to in the same workout:
Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles
Rhapsody of Fire - Emerald Sword
Hokuto No Ken - Tough Boy
I LOVE anime openings for working out.
Outlaw Star - Through the Night (opening)

Has been my favorite workout song lately. I love the lyrics to it. So amped, The lyrics are just perfect for working out.

More jpop for working out:
Girl Next Door - Destiny's Star
Initial D - Impact Blue

I also like eurobeat and techno, too.
Denise - Emotional Fire (eurobeat)
Frisco - Sea of Love (happy hardcore)
Fun Factory - Take Your Chance

Really, it's not too much different from what I listen to sitting around at home.

I feel good that Dmitry Klokov listens to girly techno whilst working out, too.
