MMA, UFC, Amateur wrestling?
Hi, I got involved with high school wrestling when I was 14 and it was the best thing I ever did. It became my special interest and gave me confidence and drive that I've never had before or since. Anyone else here participate in or just watch amateur wrestling or mixed martial arts (UFC)
It's cool to know that there're some fellow aspies into MMA. It doesn't really strike me as a typical aspie interest.
Yah, I think it'd be cool if Liz won, but I think Rousey winning is better for the sport. I think Women's MMA needs a dominant and polarizing personality for it to really become popular, and I think Rousey is the perfect woman to fit that role. The fight I'm really pumped up for is Hendo vs Machida, huge clash of styles and I'm guessing the winner will get a title shot.
Yeah, a bit strange ain't it? I don't see many fans on WP. Have you ever seen a fighter you think might have Autism? I think Matt Horwich may have Autism.
I think whoever wins will be good for the sport. I'm not sure who'd be better. Ronda is looked at as a sex symbol by some which attracts more fans, and she has a big ego, can't blame her though she did compete in The Olympics and win a bronze medal. She's a great athlete and a big trash talker. I admit, another reason why I watch her fight besides her skill level, is because I hope to see that big mouth get closed. I think if Liz wins, it would show that she has improved herself a lot as a fighter in a very short time. Liz may also attract more fans due to her past in the military, and since she is one of the few fighters in MMA to openly admit to being homosexual. She seems like a humble person too. Overall, I think this is a win/win for the sport no matter who wins.
I'm also looking forward to Henderson and Machida. The fight should be awesome. It has the chance to be like a Shogun Vs Hendo rematch almost... Really excited to see how this fight turns out! Dana said whoever wins gets to fight the champ.

Yah, Horwich is a very eccentric guy. Apparently he was cut from The Ultimate Fighter for not being social enough, which would be consistent with someone who had autism. I've also heard people suggest Nick Diaz may have autism. I don't know about that, but he certainly displays some characteristics like lack of eye contact, social anxiety, and long monologue style of speaking.
I think it'll be extremely rare for aspires to reach the upper levels of MMA due to motor coordination issues. I know for me wrestling became my life in high school and I won a few championships based on pure dedication, but I knew I was simply too clumsy to make a D1 college squad. If Horwich or Diaz do have autism, they certainly don't have typical AS coordination issues.
You said you're an MMA practitioner though? How's that going for you?
I hear Nick Diaz called an autistic a lot. I'm not sure, in videos where he is not being interviewed, he seems really chill and moderately talkative. This is just my guess, but he seems to have Social Anxiety.
I'm really unsure about the coordination issues you speak of.
I've trained Karate for about 1/4th of my life, Kenpo Karate to be exact. I became a black belt, had some fights, but unfortunately money ran short, life got harder, and I quit. I've gone to various classes involving JJ, Boxing, Kickboxing, and a few seminars by famous fighters and coaches since then but never was able to dedicate myself 100%. Whenever my pockets grow a bit more, I'm looking forward to joining the local 10th Planet gym, and getting down and dedicated. Being able to strike well is one thing, but getting down and dirty is a whole nother' world.

That was a heck of a card outside of the Machida fight. I really though Carmouche was going to pull it out for a second there. I'm not sure if any of you guys saw the Bermudez fight, but it was one of the best fights I've seen in a while
Pondering- yah, martial arts training can be expensive. That's primarily why I'm not training right now. I've heard really great things about 10th planet though. You're lucky to have one so close.
