It gets crazy. I've seen a teacher not let another teacher in their office because one was wearing Ravens and one wearing Steelers. Why do people go so nuts over this game? It's so stupid for them to go wacko over a ballgame.

Maybe because people like competition. Why do people go nuts over video games? My sister use to throw the controller at me if I beat her at a video game. I never understood it, but It's ok to not understand everything.

I can understand if two people are fighting each other like in a video game, but this is nuts.

People scream and loot, and do crazy rituals just to make their team "better"

games are just games, theres no difference between a game of football and a computer game. the motivation is very similar for both.

The reason i dont like games like soccer is because i prefer to be part of the action rather than a spectator. That and soccer being way too simplistic and me liking games that challenge my mind a little more. They do have appeal though and i did progress from playing sports when i was younger to liking more intellectual games as i grew up.

I think you have to remember with nts love of games like soccer, the normal nt doesn't challenge the system. They might not love soccer as much as they could love some other game more suited for them but they go along with it because part of who they are means they like all the mainsteam things and accept that things are the way they are and make the most of it.

the kind that like things like computer games are the ones who are a little more resistant to just doing whatevers normal purely because its normal. They make more effort to fit their lifes to their personal tastes.

oh i mean, thats a generalisation of course. Im sure there are people that like sports like soccer completely because they actually like it. Thats just a few of the insights ive had on the subject though.

oh, another insight i just had OP.

You're confused about why rival teams trash talk each other but you just trash talked about sports! You yourself have done the very thing you dont seem to like and expressed confusion as to why someone playing in a rival team ( the sports team) would act the way they do.

They do it for the reason you just did, because everyone finds the thing that suits them and finds it confusing that other people could like something other than what they themselves like. Add talking and making a big deal about it and we're there.

People arent so different when you take a step back.

I kinda understand if you're supporting your school teams.
But when it comes to professional sports, it gets a little ridiculous. I understand if you support a certain player. But with professional teams, the players, coaches, and owners change. So what are people exactly looting for? What makes the identity of the team? Just the name? I never understood that.

I'm not trash talking sports. I'm not really into sports but I can see why many people would be. What I can't understand is why it can make adults act like small children.

Yeah why do even grown ups act like small kids when it comes to supporting sport teams?

I am not talking trash.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking sports.

But when you see a teacher refuse to open the door to let another teacher in, unless they remove a steelers hoodie, perfectly normal? It's childish, and I'd like you to tell me how it isn't.

Through my own observations, people don't care if someone disagrees with them on politics, religion, logic, but sports is a sacred territory they feel bound to defend.

Nothing wrong with liking sports or cheering on your favourite team.

As long as you don't do the following:
abuse opposition fans (I have heard of fans (grown men) abusing children and making them cry just because they are following a different team. Who the hell does that?).
assault people (we have all heard of fans being hit at football games.)
treat the athletes as gods,(U are not obligated to worship them,)
force people to support your team. (these fans are so annoying!)

I don't get why people do the above. I mean it is possible to support ones team without being a massive jerk.

I wish I could figure this out. I can understand the act of playing sport since you can derive exercise and social interaction from it but I've never understood the act of watching sports on television or the like. What sort of benefit do you gain from it?

I think some of the craziness is likely to originate from the sheer frequency of sports in our culture and media and the pressure to enjoy them and identify with them. It can feel all consuming and it can be difficult to go against it.

My theory is that the neurotypical are in a constant battle to be the supreme beings - in the Western world we have diplomacy (except George Bush) and so supremacy is lived vicariously through a manner of different sports rather than through guns, chemicals and violence.

Personally, I find sports are a great topic to learn about because it opens up a lot of socialization options. It can be an excuse to hang out with people on the weekend(especially Sundays during NFL season and Saturdays for NHL) and bonding happens in these situations.

The way I see it, sports were originally developed as a socially-acceptable (and less lethal) alternative to tribal warfare. Humans are competitive and warlike by nature, and sports help provide an outlet for those tendencies. Of course, I've always found sports to be rather dull and boring, so I prefer multiplayer online gaming instead. :P
