Hi, I got a problem with toothpaste. I cannot clean my teeth often as would be good for me, because whenever I brush my teeth, I am about to puke when washing out the toothpaste.

Does anyone know this out of own experience and found a solution? I do not find a solution myself and it is realy discusting for myself as wel as for my wife. I can understand quite well why she doesnt like to kiss me - I would not myself.

just wash with plain water and then rinse with warm salt water or a little baking soda in water.

I think it happens to me when I brush so vigorously that toothpaste splashes onto the back of my throat. When that happens I take it as a sign not to brush as hard.

Ive had similar issues with different types of toothpaste and the type of toothbrush to use.

I tend to gag if the toothbaste is not minty enough or too sweet, some toothpaste can also be a problem if it produces a thick texture in the back of the mouth or paste that has a habit of changing its flavour.

The toothbrush can be a problem as well, it hast to be a soft bristle and electronic to avoid the sound and feeling of brushing a manual toothbrush makes. The toothbrush must also be time programmed to seek how long to brush where and when.

All I could do is experiment with different toothpastes and toothbrushes until I can find something more tolerable. I often rinse with water or a non-alcoholic burn free and flavour weak mouthwash.

Otherwise there's days I can't brush at all and have so far managed every other day at most to twice a weak at the very least as before I could barely manage once weekly, to a similar affect with basic general hygiene.

A Dentist may be able to give some advice on toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash and alternative techniques. Mine does often advice on flossing, but I can't for the life of me do that as the feeling of teeth being pushed away and discomfort feelings I get with that.

Hydrogen Peroxide diluted 50/50 in distilled water. Then put some baking soda in that. Thick or as thin as you please. Way better than nothing. Also floss 2 or 3 times a day. I hate minty and/or cinnamon-y toothpastes.

Why exactly do you feel nauseous when rinsing? Is it the taste? Does it get to the back of your throat and trigger your gag reflex? Is it just a mental block?

A solution depends upon the answer to the above question. For me, I sometimes get the same feeling, but it only happens if my toothbrush goes to the wrong area of my mouth (triggers gag reflex), or if some of the toothpaste ends up in the back of my throat (same thing). The easy solution for me is just to watch where the toothbrush is in my mouth, and keep my head pointed downwards so everything flows out rather than into my throat.

hello

I use toothpaste for kids (with a great taste, without menthol) and a soft toothbrush. At least, I brush my teeth once a day.

before using children toothpaste, I brushed my teeth maybe once in 4 days !
the menthol in adult toothpaste was too much strong for me, and i was about to puke like you when i used it

my OT want me to use an electric toothbrush as well (but it's expensive : 100$ !)

my 2 cents,
had

(first post ever in WP ! sorry for my english)

I remember always having a nauseous feeling in my mouth after brushing my teeth when I was younger. I don't really get it much now though, thankfully. Gurgle a lot of water and swish it in your mouth thoroughly a few times, so nothing is left in your mouth. I hate that feeling too.

This website lists some alternatives to toothpaste, which might actually be healthier for your teeth and gums than commercial dental hygiene products:

(Turns out I can't post the link because, quote: "In order to try to prevent spammers, we do not allow our users to post URLs in any form until they have posted at least 5 legitimate posts and have been with us for more than 5 days)

I need one more post before I can post the link... isn't it ironic that a measure designed to prevent spam actually causes more of it?
