Have I made some errors?

To find out my height a few weeks ago I held up my tape measure from the floor (the kitchen floor is paved with stone tiles) to the top of my fridge. When I held up the tape measure against the top of the fridge it read (173cm) which is 5ft8. When I got out of bed after a good nights sleep I put the lid of my bread bin on top of the fridge and stood underneath it and my head touched the lid so I am assuming I am 5ft8 in the early morning. However a few hours later I can comftably stand under the lid of my bread bin without my head touching it so I am assuming my true height is 5ft7 1/2.
What makes me doubt I am 5ft7 1/2 is that my parents say I could do with being a few pounds heavier since I weigh 139 or 140 pounds. 139 pounds is actually ideal for a man who is nearly 5ft8. That and when I hold my tape against myself and look in the mirror my head looks well over 5ft7 but then I have really thick hair
From the above info do you think I have perhaps made some errors with measuring my height?
Ps I did use my foot to try and straighten the tape measure when holding it up But being me I always made sure it was as straight as possible and held it up against the fridge numerous times to measure its height.
Measuring your height while trying to hold a measuring tape is going to be difficult. You'd be better off having someone else make a mark with a pencil at the top of your head while you stand straight (if you do anything other than stand still, your posture will be off-kilter, and you will get an inaccurate measurement).
Also, half an inch in height is not going to make that much of a difference w/r/t your "ideal" weight.
I don't know whether this might be the reason or not, but I've heard that, sometimes, people can appear taller in the morning than later in the day, because of something to do with the spine. I think it's supposed to be that the spinal discs are compressed during the course of the day, when the person is up and about, but when they are sleeping the pressure is relieved.

When you first get up in the morning you are your tallest as your spine has had all night to settle. As you go through the day, gravity pulls down on your body and the pressure compresses the discs between your vertebrae, It can make up to an inch difference in a young healthy person and much more in older people or those with spinal problems. Your technique is probably sound, it is just probably a normal fluctuation.

I know this insignificant but if I am virtually 5ft8 in the morning does that make my true height 5ft7 1/2 or just 5ft7 lol.
