I saw an allergist today and I'm on medicare. I was prescribed a total of 7 things each month. Co-pays for 5 of them total over $12, but Claratin and Cetaphil total over $45 since they aren't covered by my RX plan. Does anyone know what I can do about this?

Claritin is available OTC. You might try looking for the house brand of the same medication. (For example, Walgreen's has Wal-itin, which is thei brand of Claritin. Last time I bought the house brand of Claritin, it cost me $6.00.)

You could try looking on eBay & Amazon for Claritin & other meds that are available over-the-counter. I've gotten some meds pretty cheap on eBay because they were getting close to the expiration date but they're still good past that(it's just not FDA approved past that date).

Are you trying to buy brand name Claratin or the chemical by itself "Loratadine"? If you are buying brand name meds, they will cost you more.

If generics still cost too much, perhaps there are other antihistamines that will work just as well and not take from the pockets as much? I'm on Generic Zyrtec "Cetirizine" and with insurance it's $3-$5 depending on the month, for a 30 day supply.

Some times the pharmaceutical companies who sell the drug are willing to provide you with low cost to completely free drugs for a limited time. You or your doctor will have to contact them about it.

Also, scout the internet for patience assistance programs. Here's one site I found with a assistance program, hopefully it helps. http://www.needymeds.org/generic_list.t ... loratadine
