anyone else do it.

looking at the murker 23C,
soaps: cella, WSP
omega 10066 brush.
some kind of pre shave soap
blade sample pack to find the blad right for me, hopeing its derby

what do you use. all the above comes to 130ish which is alot of money :S problem is i dont know if ill be allergic to cell or not, but all that should last me a year maybe. so $12 ish a month so i guess still cheaper than disposables.

not sure if i should get this or if its just become a special interest to me, so would like to compare with anyone who also uses de safety razors. non of my friends or family do.

What's wrong with one of those $10 Schick razors--the ones with the five blades?

And shaving cream?

they cut me to hell and make me cry and feel depressed, then for days after my skin is painful to touch and red.
apparently its because the multiblad razors cut too close.

Maybe you shave too often.

I often feel the same way as you after I shave after one day--sometimes even two days.

If I wait three days, I always get a smooth shave.

last time I shaved was last week, before that was 5 months or more. each time i decide to shave it cuts me up. hoping better soap and razor will help. cheaper in the long run too unless I get sucked into the fun hobby part of it. some people have 100 different soaps, bunch different brushes and 10 or more razors, they shave with a different combination every day. think I'm too practical to get into that though.

the logic makes sense. with new cartridge razors they do 2-6 blades every pass, which can lead to getting too close, cutting skin and cutting hairs under skin to cause ingrown hairs. vs doing 2 passes with single blade. blades cost 10-30 for 200 blades. so $0.08 per blade that last 3 days to a week in the middle area.
the $30 ones sound too sharp for me. hoping to like the .08 cents ones. so $.64 a month for blades. soap last 3-7 months. some people get a year out of some soaps.

only price part is the razor, which would hopefully last at least 2 years. the making a lather sounds fun. I've considered using pre shave soap too, to try to get maximum slickness and glide. I really don't want to get cut anymore.

I switched over to a safety razor, brush, and hard soap a while back. I felt I got a better cleaner closer shave w/ less irritation. However, local stores have stopped selling regular razor blades so they can sell disposable razors. Well, except some fancy barber shops that sell expensive razor handles & blades. I've since just switched back to the disposables I like best and continue to use the hard soap & mole hair brush because I like the shave AND it costs a lot less than shave gel/cream/foam in a can. One ~$6-10 thing of shave soap lasts me more than a year.

Also, when I did use a safety razor I used a super cheap one - like $10 or something. All it is is a holder for a decent blade.. no need to buy a $100 one to try it out and see if you even like it. Maybe try finding a super cheap one online to give it a go with?

amazon sells blades for safty razors. depending on the blades its super super cheap, like derby is $15 for 200.

theres a bunch of shave sites that sell them too but they cost little more.
I quite suprised by how many people do it and that theres a simi large industry behind it, though most world still shaves this way.

yeah i got a $30 razor, they sell some that cost $300 or more. its a near the cheap end i guess, though a lot of them are $30-50. i mean it is tech from the 1900s. so if it only last 3 years or less meh I'll buy a better one or just rebuy it, but it has the potential to last 50 + years.

they also sell a very mild one at walmarts for $20 that is advertised by the pawn shop guy. I got the 23c cause I wanted a long handle similar to disposables. most DE razors have short handles, perhaps with a job and months from now i'll try one with short handle and more aggressive, but for now wanted mild one. plus i can put different heads on the handle too it seems.

local store here sells cheap van der hagen soap and brush, and some brand of blades in 5 pack(not bad price but not as cheap as buying in 200 packs) i spent $35 in soap. but if I'm not allergic to them then its over a years of soap. plus i feel i might buy more in different scents.

might be able to buy a used gillet from the 40s for little less. but really I don't think 20-30 is too much money.

I'm getting two bore brushes, didn't know they used moe, thought it was just badger and bore, though saw a horse brush other day. each brush was only $9 so not bad. guess even just a brush and soap help alot cause the brush gets into the hair follicles and gets the hair to stand up and stuff. as far as cheap idk .007 cents a blad vs disposable as to which is cheaper. I didn't buy the ones i have but they cut me to shreds.

Maybe it is badger now that you mention it. I could have been mistaken.

well first shave. Used cella soap this time. wonderful smell. first pass with grain was good, 2nd pass against cut me few places, two were on my pimples. and left 2 ingrown hairs. now I have to wait for those to heal before shaving again :(

over all despite still cutting myself. it was more fun/pleasant experience. I find myself disappointed that I cant shave tomorrow with my other brush and mahogany scent.

I think next time I won't do against grain. just with grain for the first bunch of shaves then maybe try going cross grain to attempt to get closer smoother shave.

I don't have anyone who touches my face so it doesn't really matter how it feels i guess. wonder if most women really want it super smooth or just mostly smooth is ok?

Make sure your skin is well infiltrated with warm water, put a cloth with hot water on your face for several minutes before shaving. Lather up a bar of normal bath soap well by rubbing it between your hands and apply the slippery suds well to the area you're going to shave. Run the blade under very warm water before starting to shave. Use long smooth slow strokes. Wash the blade under very warm water between every stroke and make sure there's no gunk in it. Pass each area of skin only once. Shave with the grain only never side on or against it.

The key to success is good skin preparation making sure the whiskers are all saturated with water, and good technique.
