How do I break a habit of laziness and weak willpower?

I've always been a really lazy person and I can hardly ever motivate myself to do even the simplest of things. Often when I decide to do something productive, I change my mind really quickly and decide I don't want to do it, or I can't be bothered to do it, and I just sit there doing nothing a lot of the time. I'm just lazying my life away (if that's a word) and it's really frustrating. Is there anything I can do to break this habit?

If you are talking about exercise, the best I can offer to pick a set time. Then when you have a time scheduled mentally, force yourself to stick to it. Don't make excuses for yourself because you're only creating obstacles, and ultimately making it harder to get and stay motivated. At least that is what I've done, I hope that I've answered your question.

I am "lazy" too.....in fact, a relative gave me a figurine of Little Boy Blue ("where is the boy who looks after the sheep? He's under the haystack, fast asleep..") at age five which I still keep on my dresser.

What I may suggest is two things: find a routine you love. Yoga, Pilates, dance, swimming. It does not matter what,
so long as you can find a way to do it in your neighborhood on a routine basis. Next, focus on your body, how good
it feels after a work out. Me, I love the "sensation" of working out with weights, swimming, yoga, etc. And, any
exercise will reduce stress and tension, always a good thing for you and me!

I also like exercise videos. I have used them for 20 years. You can find any sort of routine you like, pop it in the
player at any time, and do it in private in your living room. I use both the library and Collage Video as sources. If
I find one I really love at the library, I order it from Barnes and Noble. Thrift stores will have them for a buck, so
it's fun to search there, too. Also, have fun with gear. I love leotards, foam rollers, yoga blocks and mats,
Pilates ring, weights, dyna bands, etc. It's just kinda fun. Remember, working out is NOT PE class! No
teacher, no grades, no bells to ring. Just your breath and your body, getting stronger, more flexible, more
comfortable.

Best to you,
Alice

Yes. Requires effort though.

I can tell you of a few techniques that might help but it still requires effort.

What you've been told is laziness might be "autistic inertia". Google it--it's a real thing.

Condition yourself to auto-respond to some alarm, such as setting up certain alarms for certain activities at certain times of the day on your Tablet, and any time that alarm sounds, drop absolutely everything you're doing at the moment & switch immediately to that "scheduled" activity until it's completed or until the next alarm is triggered.

Exercise is a really good thing for motivation. I always try to work in an hour a day of exercise because I feel like an over-achieving gold medalist afterwards, even when my life is going straight down the toilet. Personally, I love to ride my bike, and I love speed. sprinting up to 50km/h (and outpacing cars in the process), and doing 50km round trips can feel so rewarding. I'm a tad less active in the winter, but I try to go skiing as much as possible.

I fall into habits of laziness too, and I've wasted away 4 years of my life due to laziness/poor work ethics. I've dropped out of college, I've been fired from several jobs, and there have been too many days I simply sat in my room all day getting doughy.

I'm gonna state the hard facts to you, just as my Dad did to me.

Life? It is HARRRD. And you gotta be willing to work equally as hard to achieve whatever goal you have in mind for yourself. It took me longer than it probably should have to realize this. You gotta put in 100% effort to get any reward. You also gotta be willing to take some crap from people, or do things you might hate. And also, the only one who can motivate you everyday is YOU.

I wish you good luck, and also hope you report back with some results. :ninja:

Plain old habit does a lot for me. Even if it's not an inspired day.

I relate to this so much.

I can fixate on the idea of doing something all day and then one negative thought about doing it completely rules it out and I sit at home alone.

pick something easy and not too unpleasant first. once you succeed at something small, you can build on it.
