Does anyone on here currently have a problem with breathing tics? If so, what do you do to make sure such tics are not a problem for you?

I don't know if I'm having breathing tics, but when I am getting overwhelmed and on the verge of a meltdown my breathing becomes "erratic" or "hard to control". If that's similar to what your experiencing I think I can help.

What I do to get my breathing under control is to either stand or sit with good posture. I place my hands on my abdomen and inhale deeply through my nose, filling my abdomen with pressure rather than my chest. Pause for a beat or two, I say beat rather second because you want to ignore the rest of the world while doing this. Then slowly exhale through your mouth. Repeat.

You can use a mantra, count your breathes, or just try to time it with your heart beat. Whatever reinforces the primacy of the breathing exercise over any other concern at the time.

Hope this helps.
