That sounds like a variation of the sudden falling sensation that a lot of people have when on the edge of sleep. I get it all the time and jerk back to wakefulness for a few seconds. It might be nothing, but if you're concerned it's better to see your doctor now than later.

Regards,

Patricia

This is actually sleep shocks that are completely normal. Technically it is a seizure not clinical significant completely harmless.

it's your body saying BREATHE!!, it happens to me on certain medications. they slow your breathing and when your very relaxed your lack of oxygen sends a signal (probably electrical impulse) to jump start your breathing. If you aren't on medication you may have slight apnea. pain killers are really good at this for me. It does scare me. I thought it was like a seizure disorder, but it's just breathing. I tried concentrating on my breathing before i fell asleep, but always woke myself when my breathing got shallow again. I try not to take pain killers right before bed.

OK.

You need to pause, take a deep breath, and re-read what you just wrote.

OF COURSE you want to find out what is wrong. It will either turn out to be harmess and will ease your mind, or it will be something that will require treatment. If former than no biggie, if latter than you don't want to ignore it until it is too late. Catching these things early gives you the best chance of treatment.

Ignoring health problems is never okay. If you don't have a doctor ask a friend or a relative for their doctor's info and set up and appointment. Have someone take you there the first time if it will make it easier.

True, if you think it's serious, you must check it out!

Is this like having pains in my chest? It doesnt happen very often, but there have been instances where I will take a breath, and ill feel a sharp pain in my chest around my heart. Ill have to either not breathe for a few seconds, or slowly take short breaths until I know its not going to hurt again. I cant remember the last time this has happened though, so its probably nothing to worry about. Im a healthy person and exerices at least 4 times a week. My diet is far from fatty. Im not concerned about this, but it would be nice to know exactly what was going on with me.

And Richardbenson, I think you should go to the doctor anyway. Even if you are afraid it might be cancer or whatever. Either you have cancer or you dont. Here is the way I see it:

Go to the doctor and find out if you have cancer. If not, then great. If you do, then your chances of survival have been increased due to a doctor knowing about it and helping you.
If you dont go to a doctor, one of two things will happen. You dont have cancer and things go on normally, or you do have cancer and your chances of survival are much lower than if you were to go to the doctor.
What I basically mean is, going to the doctor or not wont change whatever is wrong with you. Its better to go to the doctor in case something is wrong than sit at home and pretend you are perfectly healthy.

I just used cancer as an example, mind you. I think you are fine, but it never hurts to be cautious. It could be a spinal thing...possibly. Do you go to a chiropractor?

Chiropractors are not doctors, not even close. None of that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restless_leg_syndrome seem familiar?

This doesn't sound like the same thing. you're describing what sounds like either "angina"or maybe trapped gas. Even if your diet isn't fatty you may have certain foods that don't agree with you. If breathing in makes it worse it is probably a good sign. They have medicine for angina if the Dr. says that is what it is.

I dont really care if they are doctors or not. They help people with spinal problems. 90% of the people on this planet could use a chiropractor because your back and neck could get mis-aligned through everyday activities.
