As of yesterday, I have been prescribed the anti-seizure medication Lamictal as a way to get me off my current anti-seizure prescription Carbatrol. The question I have for you is: If you have taken Lamictal, what side effects associated with it have you experienced the most?

Hey AnonymousAnonymous.

I don't have epilepsy/haven't taken Lamictal, so I used Micromedex to answer your question. If you want more details on a specific side effect, then let me know and I can look up the research study for you. It appears that many of the research participants experienced dizziness, headache, nausea/vomiting, and double vision.

Common Adverse Effects
Dermatologic: Rash (7% to 14% )
Gastrointestinal: Abdominal pain (immediate-release, 5% to 10% ), Diarrhea (immediate-release, 6% to 11%; extended-release, 5% ), Indigestion (immediate-release, 2% to 7% ), Nausea (immediate-release, 7% to 25%; extended-release, 7% ), Vomiting (immediate-release, 5% to 20%; extended-release, 6%))
Neurologic: Asthenia (immediate-release, 2% to 8%; extended-release, 6% ), Ataxia (immediate-release, 2% to 11% ), Coordination problem (immediate-release, 6% to 7%; extended-release, 3% ), Dizziness (immediate-release, 7% to 54% ; extended release, 14% ), Headache (immediate-release, 29% ), Insomnia (immediate-release, 5% to 10% ), Somnolence (immediate-release, 9% to 17%; extended-release, 5% ), Tremor (immediate-release, 4% to 10%; extended-release, 6% ), Vertigo (immediate-release, 2%; extended-release, 3% )
Ophthalmic: Blurred vision (immediate-release, 11% to 25% (adults) and 4% (children); extended-release, 3%), Diplopia (immediate-release, 24% to 49% (adults) and 5% (children); extended-release, 5%)
Psychiatric: Anxiety (immediate-release, 4%; extended-release, 3%), Depression (immediate-release, 4%; extended-release, 3% )
Reproductive: Dysmenorrhea (immediate-release, 5% to 7% )
Respiratory: Rhinitis (immediate-release, 7% to 14% )
Other: Pain (immediate-release, 5%)

I have epilepsy and take Lamictal. It works for me. I used to take Depakote, but I ate constantly and gained weight. It wasn't the best.

I am also on Depakote and although I don't know much about the side effects of that either, I have been avoiding overeating and exercising as much as I can. However, about Lamictal, I have a suspicion that Lamictal is causing seizures on a much smaller scale, in turn causing paranoia in both my mom and my sister.

Update:
As of this Wednesday, I will be completely off Carbatrol and will still be on Keppra, Depakote, and Lamictal. Since Wednesday, I have been taking 100 MG of Lamictal and not four tiny tablets of 25 MG Lamictal.
