Usually you start out with Gingivitis and then if you don't do anything to reverse it it'll lead to Periodontitis, which is what you don't want where teeth fall out and you have tissue loss and all that.
You can read the stages and see how to prevent it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periodontitis#Prevention.
One way I test if I have some kind of gum disease is by rinsing with Listerine. If it burns (I don't mean sting, I mean burns to the point where you want to cry), that usually means you got something going on there. Gum Disease is from bacteria that live on your teeth, so my routine is usually:
1. Brush Teeth
2. Rinse with Listerine for 30 seconds
3. Floss (though I hate flossing and don't do this like I should)
When you brush your teeth that's kind of a lie. Proper technique is not to brush just your teeth, it is actually to brush where your teeth and gums meet, as it stimulates the gums making them stronger. Brushing your teeth alone is a supplement to it. If you need sensitivity toothpaste, then do Listerine first because I'm pretty sure the alcohol in Listerine will mess up the anti-sensitivity chemicals.
Loose teeth alone is not generally a symptom of Gingivitis. Also, I'm not a dentist.
