For guys that have or have had facial hair, do you have what I could only describe as "chin dandruff"?

Basically whenever I let my beard and mustache grow out a bit more than just little nubs, I have this issue where there seams to be a lot of dead, dandruff like flakes on my neck, chin, and upper lip where the hair is most prominent. It drives me crazy, and it makes having facial hair very uncomfortable to me due to the itchiness it causes. I am unaware of anyone else who has expressed a similar issue, so I am wondering if this is more commonplace than I thought or if I am the only one with this issue?

Yeah, it's nickname is "Beardruff", like dandruff.
When many of us grow a beard, the skin underneath becomes dryer, especially if you use harsh soap on it.

If you wanna grow a beard, especially a long one:

Shampoo beard every day or every other day with very mild shampoo. The curlier your beard the less often you should wash it. You can also use conditioner after shampooing.

After you've dried your beard you need to moisturize it and that will keep the skin moist as well.

The BEST thing to use is plain old 100% coconut oil, it's cheap and natural (It's in the grocery story, where the cooking oils are). It comes in solid form and melts with the heat of your skin; massage it into your hands and then your beard and into the skin. It's like magic. Then brush your beard, that draws the beard away from your face and makes the hairs more uniform.

You can also make excellent beard oil from a tablespoon of melted coconut oil and 5-10 drops of any essential oil. Keep it in a covered jar.

Depending how dry you are you may need to do it once a day or less frequently. Good luck! :)

+1; shampoo and condition it. Regarding itchiness, depending on how long your beard is there is a certain length where it will be itchy for about a week. Just tough through it and the itch will go away!

FWIW, the longest I went without shaving was 1 year; I had a beard obsession at one time (even posting on a beard forum, lol!), what can I say? Best of luck with your beard!

Must go away after awhile. I've been sporting a thick, full beard for a decade. I had just the goatee part for another 8-10 years prior to that. Never noticed that. and I always play with it. And I have dry scalp pretty bad sometimes.
