It is a condition where a person can get spontaneously sick with extreme stomach cramps and vomiting every 10-15 minutes. I can go from feeling completely normal to being unable to move in about 5 minutes. These attacks can last anywhere from an hour to a week. The attacks usually occur only a couple of times a year and in between there are no symptoms. It can get so bad that it landed me in the ER at least 5 times in the last 4 years.

The doctor said that it's probably linked to migraines. She said it was basically a migraine of the gut. It's also very rare the specialist who diagnosed me said she only ever had one other patient who had it. One interesting thing is that when I looked it up some articles mentioned this is more common in people with autism.

I was wondering if any of you have experience with this.

No. I assume you got dehydrated and that's what sent you to the ER? Try some ensure clear if you can keep some stuff down. And that Gatorade stuff cause your potassium will be low. I think I have slow peristalsis and I have some ensure clear on hand.

Yes dehydration is definitely a problem. Last time I went to an urgent care center and it took them 3 or 4 tries to get in IV in because my veins were collapsing. The other reason I ended up in the ER is because the pain can get so bad.

But you're right on with your suggestions as that is what I do. I always try to keep sipping on something but I'm not always successful. Sometimes I just can't keep up with the amount I lose.

This whole thing taught me something though. Nurses are the backbone of healthcare. They're the one that do all the heavy lifting in terms of care. They are overworked and underappreciated. Knowing this whenever I go to the hospital, no matter how much pain I'm in, I always try to be as polite and respectful to the nurses as I can.

When I have got sick in the past through food poisoning and bouts of nausea an vomiting, my potassium has go dangerously low. I can't remember if it 0.6 or 1.6 once but I remember them remarking on how low it was. They have done ECG as it can affect your heart. They they keep you in on a drip. Last time it was a couple for days.

As it is not a good idea to have people with bugs on an open ward. They sent me to the isolation ward. That was fantastic, best experience in a hospital ever. Quiet with low lighting, private en-suite. I felt sorry for the guy in the next room though. Apparently he had been there for years. He had a rare condition and was vulnerable.

I suspect some of these "bugs" were more neurophysiological in nature, becuase the samples couldn't find known bacteria and also vomiting is less common for this. More viruses I'm told, but i have had random their bouts of nausea, which may be brought on by diet but not necessarily a bug. I can get sick from both ends.

The onset is very fast for these attacks. You start to smell weird smells that aren't there like diesel smells, and it is really overpowering. panic attacks can set in, but nowadays I know how to manage them better. That's what makes me think the brain is malfunctioning. Actual smells like food, make you vomit, and you can smell them a mile off.

I haven't had one of these episodes for a while maybe

I also have something called a cavernoma, in my brain which are malformed blood vessels, with stagnant blood. They said not to remove it, but it will micro bleed form time to time.
