Thanks for your post. It gave me a helpful idea. I was put on CPAP with a full face mask--nose and mouth--several years ago, but only used it a short time. I would tighten the straps until they hurt, but it still didn't keep the mask from loosening after 3 or 4 hours of sleep, at which time I would start to smother because the air pressure dropped when the mask loosened. I also had trouble falling asleep in the first place with this style of mask, as the air flow kept tickling the inside of my nose. It is extremely difficult, and sometimes impossible to fall asleep if something is tickling the inside of your nose. So between the constantly loosening mask, and the constant nose tickle, I quickly got fed up, and stopped using the darn thing.

Over the years since then, a number of people have recommended I try a nasal mask, or a nasal canula with a CPAP machine, but it would still cause the annoying tickle, and doesn't address the fact that I am a mouth sleeper, so any kind of nasal thingy would not work out for me.

In your post you made reference to BPAP & APAP, both of which were unknown to me, so I looked them up on the web. In doing so, I came across listings of types of sleep apnea masks, including a category called oral masks. These only cover the mouth, and are partially held there by the mouth itself, and by a neck strap, but have no nasal involvement. Such a mask won't cause a tickle in my nose, and won't be coming loose off my face, since my mouth will be helping to hold it in place. Also, because of that, I should not have to tighten the neck strap to the point that it would hurt. Because my nose would still be open, I would probably need a higher pressure, but that should not be an issue. It's more important to get help for my sleep apnea, and I think I would be able to keep using the oral style mask. I will have to try to remember to discuss this with my doctors. I do tend to be somewhat absentminded, but I will make a note of this.

It's awful being so tired all of the time, :( so thanks for pointing me in a helpful direction. :D
