I feel like I am a freak of nature. I read about how great protein is and how easy meat is to digest and how much energy it gives you and how are ancestors were meat eaters and did very well (apparently).

However, none of this is true for me. I found that red meat gives me horrible gas and minor stomach cramps. I also think that it is disgusting, no matter how it is done, (steak, meatloaf, hamburger) and it makes me tired. I've only met one other person like this.

It's also supposed to reduce your appiete and cravings. It doesn't really do this for me. I don't really have a big appiete (sp?) or get cravings outside of a certain time of the month.

Why is this?

Great suggestion, but I wasn't looking for advice, I was wondering the reason why I can't digest red meat. I see how you could have got that out of my post.

go veggie like me! it is rubbish that meat is good for you.. our ancestors rarely ate meat and those that did were very wealthy and ended up with hideous diseases like gout.
lentils have just as much protein as meat.
you wont destroy your health, the planet or those cute animals who suffer dreadfully for the dinner table!x

Meat is not healthy for you at all ... especially if you live in the US. They are induced with many chemicals and antibiotics that create significant inflammation within the body. You don't need meat to get protein. This is the most important thing you will learn all day. You get less nutrients from meat but are required to eat more to get it. From vegetables you get MORE nutrients from eating so little and you can eat all the veggies you want. Beans, nuts(and/or nut butters), tofu, tempeh, and seitan give you just as much protein if not more then meat will ever give you.

The drier the meat the more difficult it is to digest. Try more tender cuts and don't overcook your meat so much. Use a meat thermometer to cook to exactly the safe temp(no more) then serve. Cook meats at a lower temperature for a longer length of time. Meat with lots of fat is going to increase the workload on your digestive system as well.

While vegetables give more vitamins than meat, they give less proteins. Meat eating is considered be many as a major reason for humans big brains; eating meat gave more energy to our ancestors than only eating fruits and vegetables allowing a bigger more "hungry" brain.

@ocdgirl123: If you don't like red meat then eat white meat instead; it's considered more healthy anyway.

I also can't stand chicken. I mean, like there is no way you can convince me to like it*. You may say "Well, there is a way" It's disgusting. I like fish though (except for shellfish besides shrimp/prawns and tuna).

I also seem to be able to eat very little protein without feeling full and I wouldn't say it gives me much energy. :? In fact, it makes me feel tired if I eat too much.

*I have honestly never understand why it bothers people so much that another person hates a certain food. What's the big deal? I listened to a huge argument between a pasta lover and a pasta hater the other day and I was like "Why is it such an issue that (name of pasta hater) hates pasta?"

The Paleo diet is BS.

We were adapted to it back in those times, probably, but since then we've adapted to having lots of starch. People end up with digestive issues and even allergies after really resticting their carbs, it's a really bad idea.

If you really want to "diet", read Paul McKenna's, "I can make you thin".

You have fun listening to that head fake, I've been full plant based for 3 months and not only do I not have a problem with protein but I don't have a problem with energy either. I also exercise regularly so how's that for sustaining energy?
