I've had hypothyroidism all my life and nothing I do affects my weight. For the past several months, I've restricted my calorie intake to <500 and worked out every day at the gym. I feel better but I can't seem to get below 160 lbs (I'm 5'2). Nothing I do affects my weight, even during the holidays when I ignore my inhibitions and pig out, I don't go over 165. (Which most people would consider a good thing and I do, but it seems that nothing I do affects my weight whatsoever). I could overeat (I'd be 160) I could starve myself (I'd still be 160). I think I'll just give up, call in a large supreme pizza with extra cheese, and top it off with a box of twinkies!! ! (I'm joking by the way but it wouldn't matter if I did. Nothing that I do matters.)

You may want to take Synthroid or Levothyroxine all by itself, so its uptake isn't interfered with.

^^^Already taking Synthroid. Exactly what do you mean by "all by itself"? You mean without dieting??
I take it with a full glass of water every morning at least an hour before I eat or take any other meds/vitamins. I also avoid soy products (which, along with calcium, also slows down the thyroid), so I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe 160-165 is just my magic number.

Yes, taking it without other medications.

This article suggest trying a gluten free diet, as well as avoiding simple carbs.

But, restaurants are having issues trying to accommodate people with special diets--this is a lot more practical if you cook your own food.

It could be that your body can metabolize things like sucralose, fake foods that normally don't have calories because normal people can't use them for food. If that is the case, your calorie intake may be much higher than you think it is.

I think the only thing that would help a person in your situation is an Atkins type diet. I have been down the road you're on (only with atypical PCOS as opposed to a thyroid disorder) and Atkins was the only thing that got my weight down.

Every adult human being needs more than 1200 calories to function properly and stay sane. So to read of 500 calories and below is absolutely insane. Please stop your starvation diet immediately, no matter how unhappy you are with your body! You will never lose weight eating essentially nothing. You will stall, crash and burn and damage your hormones even more. Your body needs fuel in order to burn fat. If you starve yourself, it will attack the very little muscle it has left. Please stop hurting yourself. If you are serious about this, calculate your TDEE. You cannot calculate caloric needs more efficiently than that. Another thing you will have to educate yourself about is how inflammatory foods (all dairy immediately comes to mind, gluten for some, or fructose) affect your thyroid. But at this time, having a more positive attitude is much more important for you than losing some numbers on the scale. Do not ever under any circumstances listen to people who tell you to go ketogenic or some BS like carbohydrates make you fat. Those are people who are not only eating disordered (a path you are currently traveling down as well), but dumb beyond repair.

I have Hashimoto's and while I lost about 14kgs on a cut, my body would cling to it's fat. So I went from overweight and chubby to optimal weight and what they call "skinny fat". I too am unhappy with my physique, but my body is there to perform, not to look a certain way. This is something you will have to learn to accept. And tune out other people's judgmental comments. People like us with thyroid conditions have less leeway than those with healthy glands and hormones. We are stressed and fatigued as it is. Worrying about our body shape or body fat percentage is absolutely inane when many of us cannot even control out weight.
