I started Taekwondo about 3 months ago at an ATA school here in Tallahassee, FL. I'm a yellow belt right now, and I should be getting my Camo belt in October. I honestly think that Taekwondo is very fun and also very helpful for improving yourself. I've learned alot about self-control, attitude, perserverence, and integrity.

Tae Kwon Do was my parents first successful attempt at forcing me into situations in which I would have to be around other people. I did it for about a year and a half. I remembered that I enjoyed it. That was nearly twenty years ago.

At the moment i do mixed martial arts, its fun even when my body hurts at parts i never noticed before. Its fun and being with people is healthy. Also the self defence aspect has some value for me cause of some idiots like to attack freaks...

I was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do about 13 years ago. Its a great martial art it really helps with flexibility, its alot of fun and does teach you self descipline. It was my parents first attempt as well to get me involved more socially. Later in high school I took Jeet Kune Do lessons (Bruce Lee fighting method). It was a lot more practical in its approach but any martial art is a good way to meet people.

I took TKD for a year. Not my thing, I prefer something more well-rounded. I only care about the self-defense aspect of martial arts.

Tae Kwon Do? No... Ju Jitsu? Yes. I started training maybe nine years ago? I do not do Brazilian though, I'm not a fan of ground fighting. Anyway, I agree with you, Tae Kwon Do (or which ever martial you enjoy) will do nothing but benefit you in the long run. They're excellent for all of the reasons you listed and then some... For example, I do not know if you have had issues looking people in the eye, but martial arts helps in this greatly.

I am thinking about tking a Tae Kwon Do class at my school. From what I understand TKD uses a lot of kicks. I'm not flexable so when it comes to strikes perfer my hands and elbows. I have taken introductory classes in Akido, Kartie, Jeet Kun Do and Kickboxing. I have also recived basic instruction in Praying Mantis style Kong Fu as well as boxing. Perhaps the chalange of learning a style that relies mostly on kicks would be good for me and might improve my flexability.

haha... funny stuff. i also did taekwondo for a some years... got to black belt (1st dan). i got to train with korean instructors when i was living and working in south korea. i really like the way the koreans approach taekwondo, very refreshing.

i used to do it!

i only got to yellow tips on a white belt bnut i enjoyed the sparring, i was really killer at it!

but i was doing it casually as a little tacker, but i left cos of an incident, one day i didnt wanna go and it caused trouble with the man who paid for me

anywayz i dont really care to much about not doing it or become\ing a MASTER! lolz

i do Muay Thjai now and its kick arse awesome way better than teakwondo will ever be imo

Good to see all us Aspies fighting the good fight :wink:

This weekend I'm going to my first Karate lesson at a dojo in my suburb. wish me luck. I also did a bit of Wushu while I was at uni, but the club folded during my second year there.

I used to, ages ago. I was in for a few years, got up to black stripe. I'd already had conflicts between TKD and schoolwork, and the Master Chong's only offers one night at the end of each month to test for the next belt level. I was ready to test for double-black-stripe, but I couldn't make the test night. For about five months in a row. Haven't been back since.

On the up-side, i still have pretty good balance and stretching abilities. I gave some HS cheerleaders a surprise when they decided to discuss leg-lifts in art class. "You mean like this?" :lol:

I practiced Tae Kwon Do (UMAB/ITF) for a couple years, junior high through high school. Lost interest when I was forced to stop practicing for about a month due to a bike injury. (Broken bones in the head aren't good, and no, a helmet wouldn't have helped....) I made it to green belt. I have been contemplating going back, if I can find a school in the area that is convienient, and that will help me get back up to speed.

I did so for a year and a half. Tell you what though, I wish I simply invested in boxing. Tae Kwon Do is good for building leg strength and coordination, but if you wanna learn how to fight with your upper body, I'd go another route!

I tried Tae Kwon Do a few times as a kid, for whatever reason I'd get to yellow or orange belt but never wanted to stick with it, think that particular style wasn't for me - never had the chance to try any others till recently. Right now though I'm taking Kali, really liking that a lot and I have every intention of staying the course.
