Here's the thing: I like walking. I can go on long multi-hour walks all by myself while listening to music. I don't get to do it often anymore because of work and other responsibilities that need me to be at home. So I thought buying an elliptical would help me get some exercise while I watch Netflix or something. But I can barley use it for ten minutes without exhausting myself. The weird thing is I can still walk just fine. I walk my dog around the block twice a day and could easily keep going after that. So is it the elliptical then? If I got a treadmill would I be able to use it for as long as I'm able to walk without having to be tired for the entire rest of the day?

Just go with whatever you prefer, which in this case sounds like the treadmill. :)

I want to be sure before I spend any more money though. I've bought a lot of workout equipment over the past couple years. I got one of those wire ellipticals (the stupid swingy leg thing) and it was worthless. Got an exercise bike but it hurt my uh downstairs. Got a real elliptical at Goodwill but it broke. Finally bought another real elliptical that's in good condition but I can't get through the day after using it. I want to make sure if I buy a treadmill that I'm not wasting money again.

Well, if you want my honest opinion, I'd say: lifting weights > everything else.
It's just the easiest and fastest way to stay lean.

I have a pair of ten pound weights at home. Do you have any recommended workouts for them?

When I bought my elliptical, I was told by the guy in the shop that it's 4 times more exercise in an allotted time than a treadmill. You work that much harder.

So that's why your elliptical is wearing you out. I rarely use mine as there's nowhere to put it in our small house.
