Growing up I was a fussy eater and really thin, my mom thought I looked like a skeleton. When I was a teenager I started getting dysphagia with food getting stuck in my throat. In my early 20s I saw a gastro enterologist, who dilated my throat and put me on the proton pump inhibitors, which I've been stuck on for the last 15 years.

I've made two recent attempts to get off the ppis and failed both times. Last year I tried stopping and ended up going to the emergency room. I currently just aborted another attempt, I was trying it while also doing intermittent fasting along with trying to replace it with the zantac. But that didn't work. Today was my 11 th day and I just can't continue anymore so I took it again.

My bed is elevated, I try to avoid trigger foods. Previously I tried probiotics but they didn't seem to do anything for me. I'm really not sure what to do. If I go see a gastro enterologist again, I expect they'll just tell me to stay on the ppi. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I don't currently have insurance, even when my job starts up again, it'll be crappy insurance. Anyways, has anybody had a similar situation? Just looking to get some more ideas of what I can try.

If your problems are caused by dysphagia, Iberogast can help treat it. I take it for gastroparesis but it also works for dysphagia.

There is apparently a risk of liver damage for long term use, certainly not common but if you plan on using it daily for years Id suggest having your liver enzymes tested at whatever interval your doctor thinks you should.
