How Often A Child Can Take Vitamin C?

I just want to be sure. Kids are sensitive when it comes to taking medicines. By the way, I know that vitamin C can give the best benefits to kids health. I want to know how often can a child take Vitamin C in a day. Is 500mg too much?

You are asking for an opinion that will affect your child's health -- a medical opinion. AFAIK, there are no trained and licensed physicians, pediatricians, nutritionists, or child-development specialists on this website.

Your best be is to consult an appropriately-trained and licensed medical professional, and not a random collection of non-medical strangers on a social website.

I am not a doctor so I don't know and was never taking Vitamin C regularly so I can't say but as for the amount - it's impossible to overdose Vitamin C. I love the taste of Vitamin C and I could eat the whole pack (25x 200mg=5g) in one go ever since I were a kid so they had to hide if from me (that's the reason why I never had it regularly - I could always find it, eat it and get told "we are not buying you anymore of it" for a while, lol).
I try to control myself now but I still can't stop myself from taking too much of it when I buy a pack - I bought one yesterday because I am sick right now and I ate about 4,5g already(45x100mg). LOL

However I heard that big doses can be bad for urinary tract. I don't have that kind of issues though.

Well, according to the experts -- fully trained and licensed medical practitioners -- at the Mayo Clinic, megadoses of vitamin C supplements might cause: Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Heartburn, Abdominal cramps, Headache, and/or Insomnia.

No one should self-medicate or medicate a child with mega-doses of any vitamin without first consulting with, and gaining the approval of a fully trained and licensed medical practitioner, preferably a general-practice physician, a pediatrician, or a nutritional specialist in the medical field.

Why do you think that? Too much Vitamin C is not good for children or adults.

500 mg is something like 10 to 20 times the maximum dose you should give a child.

I take too much Vitamin C because it is part of a B Super Complex that contains 150 mg per pill. I need to find one that has lower levels of vitamins.

I take half a gram 3x a day(1ce with each meal) & I haven't noticed any adverse affects. However my girlfriend also takes that dose & she had increased it abit to 2 grams a day because she gets sick easily from a stress illness. She lowered it back to half a gram 3x a day after abit because she thought it was aggravating her stomach. She has lots of stomach issues thou.

As far as I know, Vitamin C is water-soluble, not fat-soluble, so whatever your body doesn't use gets flushed away down the toilet.

I'm no expert though, so don't hold me accountable. But I know when I'm trying to kick a cold, I will spread out my doses of C throughout the day. I prefer to get my C from grapefruit juice, though.

Only up to a point. After that, the symptoms of vitamin toxicity kick in, and you may as well have the flu.

That's my theory when it comes to minor community acquired chest infections, people are obsessed with popping antibiotics for these things!
