I've lost weight in the past but that was using Phentermine. I no longer have access to those pills and I've regained about half of the 55 kg I lost a few years ago. I'm starting to feel uncomfortable in my body again. I don't mean in regards to my appearance, I mean physically. When I sit down I can feel the fat rolls bunch up. I buy larger clothes, they fit but they don't look as good. All the nice clothing for men assumes your body will stay the same width for its entire length.

I've read a lot of stuff about weight loss on the web and much of it seems to be contradictory. I want to call on the experience of the crowd and ask you, if you have successfully lost weight (without drugs), how did you do it?

Starving doesn't work that well, because it'll come back when you start eating again.

IMO, best way is to cut down on processed foods, carbohydrates, and especially sugars. I know a lot of people who say that just cutting soda/pop out of their diet did wonders for their general health. It takes a lot of determination, but after you go without sugar for a while, eventually your body is supposed to stop craving it.

I've never had a weight problem, though.

I've read conflicting reviews of Eat Right 4 Your Type, where your body chemistry reacts differently to food depending on your blood type...personally, everything I've read in it seems to fit for me. He recommends that unless you're type O, you should probably eat mostly vegetarian. I'm O, so that probably explains why I get so hungry without meat.

Eat meats lower in fat as well as lowering carbs. I'd cut out pork, bacon etc. altogether. Eat beef no more than one day a week.

My partner made the blindingly obvious conclusion that I eat less. On average. If I didn't like something I didn't eat it. And I ordered fewer items at fast food places. Or chose the healthier option, like the salad at Wendy's. I didn't hesitate to binge when there was lots of really good food, say at a potluck. The average was still a lot lower.

It's a two-step process:

1. Eat less.

2. Exercise more.

Simple.

I put my wonderfully slim physique down to having Crohn's Disease for half a century. I wouldn't recommend it as a weight-loss method though.

The only thing that's worked for me is exercise and counting calories (ie setting a certain level of total calories per day based on the target weight I want to reach and logging my daily food intake (there are many apps for that). When I reach that limit. It's go hungry time....).

So which meats should I eat the other six days per week? Chicken? Salmon?

After many years of poor eating habits, I slid into the obese category. I had weight loss surgery (gastric bypass) 5 years ago. I dropped 120 pounds (54 kg) and have maintained this weight loss. I went from a size 3X in shirts down to a size small and from a size 46 in pants down to a size 33. Because of my obesity, I developed many adverse health conditions and as a result I was on a number of medications. These all went into remission shortly after surgery and stayed there.

Not snacking all the time and not having seconds for breakfast lunch or dinner. I exercise. My weight has stayed off since junior high because I changed my eating habits. I never did fad diets or did diet pills. I also cut my portions. I do not eat until I feel "full" where my stomach feels uncomfortable.

How can I not snack all the time when I feel hungry all the time?

Skip breakfast. Drink tea or coffee.

Eat at lunch. Replace pasta/rice/potatoes with broccoli. Serve with a piece of fairly lean piece of meat and your choice of sause.

Eat similar meal at 6 in the evening.

Do not eat until lunch next day, except maybe tea before bed.
