If you look at the Sun, can you really become Blind in a few seconds? Or is that not true? If yes why im not blind yet? Or will i soon go Blind because i looked directly in the Sun? Because i do not want to go Blind. Im really scared of going Blind. How big is the possibility to go Blind if you accidentally look at the Sun? Is anyone here scared of Blindness too?

The time it takes depends on your eyes and how much daylight you normally see and how small your pupils become what time of day it is aso. Better don't do it ever except may be at sunset when the sun isn't as bright anymore. The critical things for the retina and the vitreous body are UV light and heat.

But skmetimes it happens that you look accidentally in the sun, maybe for a second. Maybe even less. Of course it is so bright that you squint, or close your eyes afterwards. Because that is a natural reflex.

Don't forget if you are half Vulcan you may have two sets of eyelids. Don't forget to open both sets.

Is that even possible in real life? Two eyelids?

Starring at the sun is harmless. But masturbation? Guaranteed to make you go blind in seconds!
:lol: :lol:

Just kidding.

Accidently glancing at the sun for a fraction of second is nothing to worry about.

Starring at the sun for a long time (because there is a partial eclipse, or because your friends dare you to, or to see if you can see sunspots, or whatever) could really damage your retinas. Don't do it.

So your reflexes will save you if there is no eclipse?

Once my cat had her eye lid open and shut at the same time cos she has two pairs and we thought she'd lost her eye...

I feel guilty cos I looked at the sun once for ages after being told this as a kid and now I have light sensitivity and I never had it when I was a kid. I wonder if it was caused by this.

Exposing your eyes to the sun without proper eye protection during a solar eclipse can cause “eclipse blindness” or retinal burns, also known as solar retinopathy. This exposure to the light can cause damage or even destroy cells in the retina (the back of the eye) that transmit what you see to the brain. This damage can be temporary or permanent and occurs with no pain. It can take a few hours to a few days after viewing the solar eclipse to realize the damage that has occurred.

What are the eye symptoms that can occur from looking at a solar eclipse without proper eye protection?
* Loss of central vision (solar retinopathy)
* Distorted vision
* Altered color vision

http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Eyelid

An eyelid was a flap of tissue that protected an individual's eyes from irritants and light.

Vulcans were known to have an inner eyelid which protected their eyes from the harsh sunlight on planet Vulcan. While traversing Vulcan's Forge, T'Pol assured Jonathan Archer that hers would protect her from the sun's glare. (ENT: "The Forge")

In 2267, on a mission to the Deneva colony, Spock's inner eyelids enabled him to completely recover his sight after being blinded by a bright light dose intended to free him from a flying parasite. (TOS: "Operation -- Annihilate!")

I don't think so. If you are rarely out in the sun with unprotected eyes then the eyes become more UV sensitiv just the same way that your skin does. I think as a kid you were just more often in the sun.

The images showed no significant vision damage to the right eye, but revealed a yellow-white spot in the left eye. The images also showed multiple areas of decreased sensitivity and a central scotoma, or blind spot, in the left eye, according to the report.
