I think i will become blind. Why? Well first of all i have the feeling that im seeing worse than before maybe a year. And the other reason is, that i looked accidentally at the sun, several times. And i looked at sun reflections too. Now this does not make you blind suddenly. But can macular degneration. And this can get so bad, that you will become nearly blind. My question is how likely is this gonna happen? And is it normal to feel suicidal because of myopia, or shortsightedness? Especially if it gets worse? Would it be wrong to commit suicide before you go completely blind?

You're probably not going blind.

See an optometrist, at least...i

You mean an ophthalmologist?

At the age of 19, there is very little chance you have macro degeneration. It generally occurs after the age of 60, My mother was diagnosed when she was in her 80s.

Don't work yourself up into a frenzy over conditions you most likely don't have. Go see a professional.

I am not a professional, so I won't answer that. Please go get a thorough eye examination.

My eyesight is deteriorating too; I went to see an optometrist (that IS the correct term) a few weeks ago, was reassured there was no real problem and prescribed a pair of very weak glasses.

Did you ever look at a sun reflection, or accidentally at the sun?

Yes. That's not a problem. Even spending large amounts of time looking into the sun is only likely to cause temporary blindness. My myopia is mainly due to excessive reading, I guess, as well as being the natural result of ageing.

And if I ever lose my eyes
If my colors all run dry
Yes, if I ever lose my eyes
Oh, if - I won't have to cry no more

According to Cat Stevens you'll be fine.

I've accidentally looked at the Sun directly quite a few times---including during a partial eclipse.

I need glasses---but that's it.

And I said "an optometrist, at least." I know there's a medical doctor who specializes in eye disorders: an Ophthalmologist.

If you know to spell the above correctly, you're not in too much trouble....

It is not normal to feel suicidal because of myopia. You should talk to a psychologist or other mental health professional about this and get some help with emotion regulation and coping skills. This can be part of your autism difficulty with executive functioning and there are skills you can learn to cope with this sort of thinking.

Also you absolutely do not have macular degeneration at 19 y/o after looking at the sun a few times. This is a disease that occurs almost exclusively in elderly adults which mostly distorts the central part of your visual field and makes it difficult to see details. My grandmother has this and she copes by using large font on her computer/phone and using a magnifying glass. It's not the end of the world. She can't drive but she rides a motor scooter to the local grocery store and generally has a very happy life. It's all about your attitude towards the problems that arise in life.

You should go see an optometrist about your vision. You probably just need glasses/contacts. They can also do a test to rule out macular degeneration and can answer questions you have about vision. You don't need to see an ophthalmologist for this. They deal with more complex eye issues and perform surgeries on the eye.

Becoming so overwhelmed by anxiety that killing yourself seems like the best way to escape isn't normal. If possible, you should discuss it with a mental health professional. It used to happen to me often, but getting the right mental health care has helped.
