In the mornings I have a difficult time staying up and getting up without caffeine or sugar. I usually feel very tired and not very motivated to continue doing work, so I go to my computer and spend most of my time on it until I am wide awake, and sometimes I miss the time needed to do what I need to because I spent most of it on the computer, so I go back to sleep and the same process repeats. What is an alternative to this so that I stay focused on my tasks while not feeling tired all the time? Waking up without caffeine or sugar and without going on the computer feels like what a rabies patient would go through with drinking water.

I would talk to a doc about it. There may be a medical reason as to why you feel tired & have a hard time fully awakening. Meds your on or a sleep disorder could be some of the factors. The doc might also prescribe something to help you wake up after tests have been done & causes ruled out.

How is your sleep? Generally speaking, if you are well-rested, you should be able to stay awake during normal waking / daylight hours. If you are spending most of your time on the computer or are otherwise mostly sedentary you could not be getting enough activity to tire yourself. Nutrition also plays a part in sleep cycles and energy levels. Sugar and caffeine are both going to make you more tired over time, not less.

A lot of people don't get enough sleep.
