Im worried that i may have hearing loss because i have tinnitus. Is tinnitus a symptom for something dangerous? Or is it mostly harmless if you have a constant ringing in your ears? Should you absolutely go to the doctor fast if you have tinnitus? How do i convince my parents that i should go to a doctor soon? Because they do not take my tinnitus serious, or even believe i have tinnitus. Or is this unnecessary?

Tinnitis does NOT mean you have something serious. It almost always is not serious.

But it wouldn't hurt to get it checked out, anyway.

Kaiser has a symptom checker

Go to doctor too much, hypochondriac

Not enough, in denial

When I was 15 I was scratching ear with qtip

Cotton got stuck

Tinnitus after

36 now

20/20 hearing

No other symptoms

But your situation could be different

Tinnitus can be a side effect of medication. For instance, Prozac can cause it.

Try to pinpoint when you first noticed it. Can you think of what was going on in your life at that time? Even something so simple as a med change. Or a new set of headphones!

It can be bothersome and can stay with you lifelong, so yes, I think you should go to a doctor.

A year or so ago I was cleaning my ear with a qTip & some of the cotton got stuck. I didn't notice much except that ear felt uncomfortable & I wasn't hearing as well from it. I saw a doc after a few days & they had to flush my ear to get it out after trying to reach it with some kinda tweezers. I had tinnitus for week or month after. The doc did tell me things might be off for a while which is why I waited so long for it to clear up instead of seeing the doc again. It had gradually started getting better around the time I was considering making another appointment.
