How often are we drinking that much in this scenario?

Google says a glass of wine is 123 calories, so six is 738. Recommended daily intake is like 2000, so that's 14,000 a week, so that's like 5.27% additional calories. I don't think that's that much.

PS I just looked up how much weight you actually gain per calorie. This site says 1 pound per 3500 calories, so 738 excess calories a week would gain you about a pound every five weeks.

7 38 calories is like a decent sized meal.

Generally speaking, most of it has a lot of carbohydrates, and thus turns into sugar in your body.

However, some people stop eating, often spending all their money on alcohol, and their bodies need protein and nutrition, and begin breaking down muscle, so they waste away.

Alcohol lowers inhibitions and hurts decision making, so often people eat more food while drinking (restaurants love this). Some alcoholic drinks taste best when paired with food, so more food will be ordered to finish a bottle, then another bottle to finish the food….and so on.

Some alcoholic beverages are low in carbohydrates.

Either way, it is still technically a poison we play with, trying to get a dose that “feels good” without killing us.
