At work they're giving people a drug test at random. I don't take drugs, but I'm on 50mg Sertraline. Will that show up in the drug test and falsely come up as positive for some type of bad drug like LSD? I'm worried in case it does. Shall I keep a copy of one of my prescription sheets in my bag, just in case?

Also does anything else show up in these drug tests, like caffeine or nausea/headache pills or certain kinds of soft drinks?

It shouldn't show up on a drug test. Even if it did, you're still in the clear as long as you have a prescription. Don't worry about it.

Nor will anything common like headache pills or caffeine.

Quote:
most drug testing methods do not actually test for the presence of drugs. This is because most drugs break down very quickly in the body. Therefore, the test looks for the chemicals that remain after the drug breaks down. These are called the metabolites.

The metabolites of drugs can be detected in blood, urine, hair, sweat or saliva. The most common type of testing is urine.

The presence of drugs can be detected in urine, for most drugs, for up to three or four days after use, although in the case of some drugs such as cannabis and benzodiazepine they can be detected for several weeks, especially after heavy use. Drug use can be detected in blood for roughly the same period or slightly less, and for an even shorter period in saliva. Most drugs can however be detected in hair for up to 90 days.

Different companies will test for different drugs but the most common package is a urine test for cannabis, cocaine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, benzodiazepine and opiates.

Sertraline can cause you to have a false positive drug-screening test. If you provide a urine sample for drug screening, tell the laboratory staff that you are taking Sertraline.

I hope you have a prescription for it.

The drug test is something you have to blow into. Will Sertraline show up on that? If I fail, I could get fired...

They're looking for illegal drugs, Joe.

You're allowed to take prescription SSRI such as Zoloft, which is for depression or PTSD. Restricting you from a prescription medication would constitute a human rights violation.

All the previous posters are right.

They’re looking for cocaine, marijuana, and such......just have your prescription handy, and you will be okay.

Probably, nothing will show up.

I know, I just heard that prescription tablets could falsely show up as an illegal drug on a drug test. Not everything's 100% accurate.
