My brother used to go to a reputable hot yoga studio, and he got extremely ill from airborne germs and bacteria which is carried in the moisture. He was treated for respiratory infections for several months after attending, and the doctor advised him not to ever go back. Hot sweaty environments breed contaminants when there are so many people in the room, and this is worse because you are breathing deeply. I don't want to be pessimistic, but I wanted to share this thought.

Your opinion is not my colleague's reality!

She does hot yoga all the time and I have not heard of her getting sick.

Perhaps your brother didn't eat right or take care of his body properly.

Maybe he had the misfortune of attending with another member who was ill. Obviously, this doesn't happen to everyone and it doesn't happen every time. I was just sharing what he encountered. I know other people who have felt faint and had to leave the room due to heat exhaustion. Everyone's experience is bound to be different. I hope you enjoy it.

A simple Hatha Yoga class can be very rewarding and probably less dangerous, less hype etc.

This.

Unless you are used to or generally love heat and stuffy air, you might feel faint or dizzy.

Have you done Yoga before?

All I know is that it's done in a hot, humid environment.

I have done yoga before, but not hot yoga.

As far as I understand, it's a fairly basic from of yoga, practised for centuries, usually in a calm, cool environment.

A branch of Yoga focused mostly around physical form/technique - it's what most people practice, at least in the West :).

If you're already an experienced practitioner, give the hot Yoga a go and see how you like it - personally, I hate temperatures above 25C (77F) and need lots of fresh air during exercise
