I was told if you say for example have surgery too repair a bump on your nose bridge or too correct a deviated septum often the results of the operation can be unpredictable and in some cases your nose can look worse after surgery than it did before.

Do you think this is true or not? In my country i’d Have nose job done under the NHS or have too go private.

Well, there's certainly bad nose jobs. I've always thought of getting one, a decent one that is. Ever since I was told I had a hooked Arab nose. I doubt the NHS would give you a nose job unless your nose was damaged.

Well I suspect I have a deviated septum if that counts as ‘damaged’?

Do you have breathing problems because of it?

Well yeah I think so. I notice I breath out of one nostril sometimes too.

If you have a deviated septum, and it is causing you trouble, I'd get it fixed. With such a surgery I don't think there is likely to be much noticeable cosmetic change.

At least I don't think my nose looked any different from the outside after I had my septoplasty. I sure can breath a lot better though :).

Of course it may be different if they were intending to do cosmetic alterations at the same time.

Only do the "nose job" if your nose, at present, is constricting your breathing.

Cosmetic surgery, while usually successful (and expensive) carries at least some risk for various things---including a non-successful surgery.

I am not really sure if it’s constricting my breathing or not?

Do you have trouble breathing through your nose? Any trouble at all....in the absence of a cold?

It may do, but it depends on how wonky it is to begin with and how straight they manage to make it. You'd really have to speak to a suitably qualified surgeon to get a proper opinion on that.

Its definitely worth considering if you do have breathing problems. Do either of your nostrils get blocked often?

I can't speak for any cosmetic work, but it doesn't take long to recover from septoplasty. When I had mine done, I was out of hospital the same day, and was OK next day. My nose just seemed a bit fragile for the next couple of weeks, so I avoided going out in the cold so that I wouldn't be blowing it all the time.

Of course one person's experience might be very different to another's.

I've had surgery on my nose to correct a deviated septum. It was like 4 years ago. My surgery went OK I guess except the recovery was kinda a pain cuz my nose was bleeding a lot at times. The only real risk the doc warned me about was that I may have a tiny hole in the bottom of my nose which would cause my nose to whistle. That didn't happen to me. I had the surgery done cuz of sinus & allergy problems & I may have sleep apnea that the surgery might of helped with a tad.
