if you take anti depressents like setraline and beta blockers like propanolol and also antipsychotic medication.

can these drugs listed above cause weight gain in the face? or is it only steriods that do that?

I’ve been on sertraline, propranolol, and steroids for periods of time in the past, and while I personally never gained weight on any of them, it’s possible to gain or lose weight on them, yes. Especially sertraline and steroids like prednisone.

I've definitely been on antidepressants before that made me hungry all the time.

This was a particular issue for me as I have insulin-dependent (Type 1) diabetes.

Sorry I can't remember the name of the tablets, my memory isn't very good.

Taking Metformin(a diabetes drug) with antipsychotics can help negate the weight gain associated with those drugs regardless if you have diabetes or not. Ask your doctor about it and tell him/her that gaining weight is a serious/unacceptable side effect for you that you want to be dealt with and your suggestion is Metformin. Most doctors don't give a rat's behind if a patient gains weight from the drugs that they prescribe, even if they blow up like a whale. They completely ignore the real health risks that weight gain is associated with.

Before I took the medication I weighed like 150 pounds now I weigh 164 pounds in the morning without clothes on. Would you say that’s blowing up like a whale?

I do quite a lot of weight training though and exercise so maybe some of that weight is muscle.

My height is 5ft7-5ft8 by the way

I feel your pain. I take a very low dose of Remeron (7.5 mg) for anxiety and depression along with Pristiq. Pristiq is not known to cause weight gain, but Remeron is. It's actually used as an appetite stimulant in animals. Pristiq on its own did not work for me. I have tried countless antidepressants and this combo (Pristiq + Remeron) is the only thing that works. I cannot tolerate antipsychotics at all. I have been on several different ones and they all make my anxiety much worse. I have gained over 50 pounds since starting the Remeron. I don't even want to bring up the weight gain with my doctor because I'm afraid she'll take me off it and I don't want to fall back into suicidal depression and panic attacks so bad I feel like I'm losing control. I'd rather be dead than even take the risk of feeling like that again. I don't want to gain any more weight, but I am a very picky eater and don't like most "healthy" foods. My family is always bringing junk food around me and it's very hard for me to resist. I'm always hungry, and food is one of the few things that brings me joy. I cannot stand the sensation of hunger. I never could. I've tried to taper off the Remeron but the anxiety comes back. At this point I don't know what to do. I am not a person who has much "willpower".

No, not really. How long have you been on these meds? It's sure not much compared to mine :|

I have this problem too. I am on three antiepileptic drugs and one is known to cause weight gain
in people who take it over an extended course of time.

I do intend talking to my neurologist about similar drugs when I talk to my neurologist next week.

My current weight is in the 180-200 LB range when in fact I should weigh in the 160-180 LB range,
so about 20-40 LBS overweight.

I don't talk about being overweight often because one factor (although of course not the only one) is that my mom believes that none of my prescriptions cause weight gain, that I am just too lazy to exercise.

I do plan to visit a neighborhood gym later this week.

So say your overweight but that depends on your height.

How tall are you?

I think it depends on the meds and the person.

Some of the antidepressants are known to make people put on a bit of weight, although not necessarily that much.
Perhaps 1 stone.

Anti-psychotics, i believe may make people put on more than just one stone.
In some, i have seen them put on several stone.

I do not know from experience with regards to anti-psychotics (otherwise known as major tranquilizers), i have just seen such a change in other people who i know have been on these.

I imagine it must be quiet difficult to come to terms with, but i guess in some cases, such meds do save a persons life.
