Can some people just be unlucky and have pattern baldness even if there is no history of male pattern baldness in the family?

It has less to do with "luck" and more to do with genetics, but yes. There's strong evidence that baldness is a recessive gene trait.

A "recessive trait" is something that both parents must have to pass these "traits" onto you.

I've had a receding hairline since my late 20s.

Many balding men shave their heads, and look pretty good.

I'll let you know.

Last I heard, you're supposed to take after your mother's father...but in my case, so far, so good.

I do have some widow's peak (since my teens), and I think I notice just a little bit of thinning at the front maybe lately? But maybe it's just in my head. I don't notice anything half as drastic as others in my family.

From what I have read, balding also has to do with Testosterone level.

Interestingly enough LOW Testosterone can cause balding
and High Testosterone Level also speeds up the balding process.
So I guess it is important to keep your levels checked so that it neither drops too low or gets too high.

Some guys however appear to not be affected even with a history of abusing anabolic steroids for some time.
An example of this is the super famous Arnie.
