Today, four bowel movements between breakfast and lunch

Two bowel movements between lunch and dinner

MIralax seems to be working s**t

Metamucil didn't do s**t but it had a delicious orange flavor

For what it's worth, they're different active ingredients with different intended purposes.

Polyethylene Glycol 3350 (MiraLAX) is intended for occasional use. Extended use may cause dependency upon laxatives.

Metamucil is psyllium fibre and is safe to use for an extended period.

It would be expected that the latter is milder in effects.

Have you talked to your doctor about having so many bowel movements? More than one a day is very unusual, so why are you taking laxatives to have even more than you already do?

About three and a half years ago, I got severely stopped up after eating some popcorn.

The doctor put me on miralax and other laxatives. It did nothing. I had about two small bowel movements in a month.

Then he put me on something called lubiprostone. It is apparently intended for heavy users of opioids. I only took one. It was pretty painful for a few hours, but it got everything going again. Even with that, it took a while to build back up to normal.

Some food items can really get a strong laxative-type effect. One is pancakes. About half of the time I make pancakes, I feel an intense need to go to the bathroom. There is also an old-time drug store diner in the next town over and I like to eat there. For some reason, their hamburger, onion rings, and soft drink does this, too.
