Is it healthy to drink only milk (one glass in the morning) and water (for the rest of your fluid intake)? If so, how much water should the average person drink - given that he/she lives in a moderate climate and doesn't have to do intense physical labor? I've heard a figure of about 2 or 3 liters per day, but I don't know whether this is correct or not. Anyway, thanks in advance.

P.S. BTW, I'm assuming a normal, well-balanced, and non-vegetarian diet.

I've heard that it is good to drink at least 8 cups / glasses of water a day.

NB. a 'cup' in UK is different to in US, in UK it is approx 1/2 pint (about 250ml) so 8 'cups' is around 2 litres. Don't drink too much in one go though or you will get water intoxication and feel ill, it has to be spread evenly through the day.

A glass of milk each day? Some people do it. Not me though, I haven't had milk as a beverage in like 15 years. I drink only water.

As long as you're urinating regularly and it isn't a dark color I'd say you're probably drinking enough. There's water in food too.

I drink at least three glasses of milk a day, actually...plenty of water, too, of course.

about a liter a day would be good, perhaps 1.5. And about 0.25 liters of milk per two days, provided that your aren't lactose intolerant as I am.

it's fine to drink only water and milk. juices are usually packed with extra sugars and some of them don't even have all that much in terms of nutrition. you really don't have to worry about water intoxication, if you're not doing some kind of strenuous exercise you'd pretty much have to try to get it to actually get it. during my last 2hrs of cardio (3hrs total, 2hrs of actual rowing) i drank about 4L of water and 500mL of Gatorade (i was cramping towards the end so i needed electrolytes). i should have drank more of a sports drink but i forgot my mix at home and i didn't have the money for more Gatorade.

they suggest that you drink about 2L of water per day but you get water from fruit and other foods so it adds up quickly. just make sure your urine is light yellow to clear and you're fine.

The amount of water you need to drink is dependent on how much you sweat, what your diet is like, how your metabolism functions, and about a billion other factors. As long as you urinate regularly (not too frequently, not too infrequently) and it's clear, you're good. It's generally better to drink more water than you need than not enough, but it's also possible to drink too much water.

Diet is really a very subjective thing, and there's nothing that you can put a blanket statement on about how good it is for you or exactly how much you need. Nutritional science is still very imprecise, and it's generally unknown how everything actually works.

Recommend you check out www.dorway.com - aspartame is one of the most noxious and insidious poisons around today - there are over 92 FDA-recognised symptoms of aspartame poisoning; it mimics so many different illnesses and diseases, and eventually induces death. :(

Anyway, yeah it's fine to just drink milk and water. Personally can't stand milk, so it's just water and an occasional juice or wine for me.

The 8 glasses/2 litres a day myth was from a recommendation put out about 50 years ago, but it stated that the majority of that comes in your food. So you don't actually need to drink anywhere near that in a day - probably about a third, so maybe 3 or 4 glasses. Just drink when you're thirsty!!

In his book advising against The Aktins Diet, Sidney Harris writes a persuasive argument against drinking dairy milk.

Cow's milk is designed for the benefit of calves alone, and is unfit for human consumption. Not to mentioned the antibiotics and hormones injected into livestock that can be transferred to man though ingesting milk.

If lack of calcium is a worry it can be found in many other sources, for instance broccolli. However dairy production is a massive industry and whilst it may be better for the individual not to consume dairy products the farming trades may suffer and decline. I think it is up to the individual consumer to decide what is healthy and morally acceptable, and not be influenced by biased statistics (e.g. so many litres per day).

If the habit of using milk is difficult to give up it is effective to replace dairy milk with soya or rice milk and cut down gradually.

I'm currently drinking four cups of water, a day. I could drink more milk, though. I might buy that Carnation Instant Breakfast and drink it in the morning with some fruit, or with the TV dinners that I'm planning to buy, at M&M Meats. Sids need their meats. That's how they keep their meatball figures. :O)

that's a very extreme case. the average person would pretty much have to try to get water intoxication to get it. athletes have to worry about electrolyte depletion in order to avoid cramping but that's a different issue. i know of people who have drank 10L in a day and have been fine. I've drank over 6L in a day and been perfectly fine. i wouldn't even think about water intoxication because it's such an unlikely event that you shouldn't invest any time worrying about it.
