I was reading an old article on ABCNews.com.

They focused mostly on some British sports fans, and read that some liked baseball. Of course a few said that Am. football was too slow and has too much of a stop, play, stop, play, stop and go.

Now that Amer. football has started, with a Thurs. Night opener between my on-again off-agian beloved Oakland Raiders and the New England Patroits. And of course the assoc. football seasons are young.
I was wondering how foreign maybe the sports here in the states may be to those in other countries just like how the article mentions.

Many already know that Americans prefer sports with points, scoring and a defenite winner, which is why soccer isn't so popular. But what do those in other countries really think of Am. football, baseball, basketball, and ice hockey? How foreign are certain sports to anyone from any country?

I think of football the same way. It's so hard to follow, with all of the stopping and starting, people all bunched together on the field, and what-not. Of course, the constant cutting to commercials and commentary by football players/coaches/whoever doesn't exactly help with that.

We Americans sure love them commericials. That is why most people watch the Super Bowl for, as well as the *ahem* "halftime shows". Besides in most cases the Super Bowls ended up being a blowout especially during the 80s and most of the 90s.

Some of the games in the past few years though, have been more memorable though, with closer scores. Even the one with the famous "wardrobe malfucntion" it looks as if people forgot about the game, which was acatually a pretty good game.

I know in rugby the play doesn't stop every time the ball carrier is down but I don 't know when play stops or not though. Also I still don't undrerstand when the players lock-up and with each other to try to see who, behind the linked-up battlers, recovers the loose ball.

I do like though during the throw-in on how each team lifts a player into the air to see who gets the ball.
