The mimicking of estrogen might be a good thing, depending on the person. Soy foods are associated with lower breast cancer, less PMS, easier menopause transition. While soy does have an estrogen-like effect, it is much weaker than the real hormone.
Soy can slow the thyroid (so can broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower).
